Daily Devotional

Note for 20250827 - Deut. 31v8 - Following the Way

1. Opening

Just a short one this morning.

There are a few ways in which you can partake in the Daily Devotional:

We are to receive the Word of GOD by the Spirit, so I strongly urge you to pray before you receive the Devotional. Let Christ take the lead in your Spiritual Development.

This morning, we start with the verse of the day once more. This is such a comforting verse for believers. I say believers, but really, I should say followers. You see, this verse implies first an active following of that way which the Lord prepares. Second there is the fearlessness in faith and trust. Thirdly, there is the matter of enduring unto the end without dismay. Such a powerful verse, here as Moses addresses Joshua.

2. Scripture Text

Deuteronomy 31:8 KJV

[8] And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

3. Devotional Reflection

This however is preceded by another verse which really should be seen with it.

Deuteronomy 31:7 KJV

[7] And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.

You see how important a little context can be? It is not my intention to retell you the entire account of Joshua, it is in the Bible, you can read it. What is important to know is that Joshua, son of Nun, was one of the spies that returned with a good report regarding Canaan that they went out to see. The other of course, Caleb. So, Joshua was tested at this point already, and Moses is "handing over" Joshua, because Moses was prevented by the Lord from entering into the promised land, both him and Aaron, which have passed on at this point already, for their transgression before the LORD. They did not follow His instruction in the matter of the rock and water.

We see in this verse that Joshua would lead the people into the promised land and "cause them to inherit it." Active involvement in the matter, even at the front end of it, the effort of conquering the promised land, following the Lord.

My reading plan also presented a similar pattern, this morning. Yes, in Isaiah, in a prophecy concerning the Messiah.

Isaiah 52:7-12 KJV

[7] How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! [8] Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion. [9] Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. [10] The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. [11] Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD. [12] For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the LORD will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rereward.

Are we not called to follow the Lord too, my friends? To walk in His way? The Lord goes ahead, and the believer follows. Part of that way is a holy consecration. In other words, there is a requirement of being set apart from this world, which this scripture from Isaiah also precisely states. "...be ye clean..." (“Be Holy, for I am Holy”)

Today, to the larger part, people do not follow the Lord any more, no! They all walk as lost lambs, expecting the Lord to leave the ninety-nine behind to find them where they are. It is almost as if they want the Lord to go ahead of them in their ways and not that they will follow the Lord in His way.

Case in point: This morning I received a message from a Pastor, yes a shepherd of a flock, who sent me some "quotes of wisdom" signed off with the name, Buddha at 1:57am. Do you think I will read any of his messages after that? You see, that is not the Way of our Lord, no matter how innocent or wise man may judge those words to be. "Define your own life, don't let other people to," a verbatim quote from the message. The Lord defines our lives, friends. Now, I will be taking this on in private conversation, as per the guidance of the Word of GOD, but I need to warn you, that not everyone who wears a collar knows the Way of the Lord. "...try the spirits if they be of GOD..." (1 John 4:1 according to memory) and this is not of GOD, because it speaks in the name of a false god.

We must actively follow Jesus Christ in His Way, not just some way. It is not "good people" that are saved, but "believers" (followers of Christ who obey the instructions of GOD.) There is a “Way,” friends.

4. Closing Paragraph

Don't bring into yourself something just based on a carnal evaluation of words that are like honey for the ears. Soothsayers, speaking what people want to hear is like the blind leading the blind. Follow Jesus Christ.

Selah, Shalom
