We are to receive the Word of GOD by the Spirit, so I strongly urge you to pray before you receive the Devotional. Let Christ take the lead in your Spiritual Development.

This morning, my friends, I was awoken by the Lord at 5:05 AM. As my feet hit the ground, any

form of tiredness left me. Over the weekend, God placed a stirring in my heart and pointed me

to a message — the message of the quiet.

2. Devotional Reflection & Scripture Text

Now, I know it may seem like a strange title for a message, but it makes perfect sense. You see,

as believers, we are called into separation. That separation often leads us into a place of quiet.

Why is this important? Because the quiet place is exactly what is referenced here:

Matthew 6:6 (KJV)

"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to

thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."

Our prayers belong in that closet — in the separated, quiet place. Why? Because as men and

women, we often have a habit of inserting ourselves into situations. In public, we tend to

become like the people around us. From the moment we leave our mother’s womb until we

draw our last breath, we are always learning and adapting.

When we stand in public places, we are often swayed to keep the peace — we don’t want to

cause a stir or give offense. So then we must ask: How true are our public declarations of faith?

For the Spirit-filled believer, it can still be perfect truth that leaves our lips — but only because of

this promise:

Matthew 10:19–20 (KJV)

"But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given

you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your

Father which speaketh in you."

So here I am, speaking to you — not by my own words, but through our Heavenly Father. I am

merely a servant in His Kingdom. Yes, to some I may seem like the stubborn donkey that had to

be beaten before it obeyed, but hear the words as they are given: we need to draw back into the

quiet.

And here is why:

Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be

added unto you."

Too often when we read Scripture, we look for “our end of the deal.” What’s in it for me? But

that’s not the way it should be. Yes, God has given us promises — some so bold they sound

impossible if spoken out loud — yet they are true because they come from His Spirit.

Human nature, however, is to look for what benefits us. The world teaches us this daily — in

every advertisement, every phone screen, every TV. Every message is: Do this because it

benefits you. Buy this because it makes life easier.

And sadly, this very marketing mindset has crept into the Church. Churches today often feel

pressured to be “trendy.”

Let’s pause on that word:

Trendy (adjective): Fashionable or up to date; following the latest style, fad, or trend.

Trendy (noun, informal): A person who is very influenced by or devoted to the latest

fashions or trends.

But here’s the problem: we are not called to be trendy. We are called to be followers of Jesus

Christ, guided by the Holy Spirit.

When you are outside of your quiet place, you risk becoming like those you are around. Yes, we

are sent into the world — to bring light to those in darkness. But being sent does not mean

making our home in the world. It means doing the work, and then returning to the Father.

That is why the Church must never be trendy:

John 15:19 (KJV)

"If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I

have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."

We love to argue about whether the Church is a building, or just the people, or if we must dress

or speak a certain way. But the truth is this: we, the Body of Christ, are the Church. We are in

the world, but not of it.

And yes — we are literally called to be hated.

As my mentor Matt often says, I can be a “puddle jumper.” But I simply don’t see the need to

sugarcoat truth — to me, that feels like flavorless salt. And I pray the Lord corrects me if I am

wrong.

But back to the title of this message: In the Quiet.

God will do as He pleases. But He calls for willing servants. This very morning, I believe many

were awakened by the Lord to speak, write, or pray as He instructed. Why? Because of what

happens in the quiet. God calls — only the willing answer.

It should humble us — even terrify us — when we hear His voice and realize what He is asking.

Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)

"Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then

said I, Here am I; send me."

And so here we stand in the quiet. I hear the voice of God saying: Whom shall I send?

And in the quiet, my prayer is that your answer will be: Send me, Lord.

Because we live in a time of choosing. The lamps of this world are growing dim. The words of

men are failing. Heroes are falling. Nations are dividing. Families are torn apart.

And yet — God is still asking in the quiet, to those who have ears to hear:

Whom shall I send?

Jehovah Nissi

Selah. Shalom.
