Note for 20250818 - Where Do You Stand?

Presented by: Brother Philip

1. Opening

This morning you hear from Brother Philip (my Timothy) a devotional that the Lord led him to write on the 13th of August 2025 (Recorded on the 17th of August 2025.) It may adapt the format in which it comes a little (because no two people are the same, the Lord has made us unique, each of us.)

There are a few ways in which you can partake in the Daily Devotional:

2. Devotional Reflection

This morning, at ten to six, God called me out of bed with very specific instructions on how and what I am meant to do before coming to sit before Him. As I was going through the process as instructed, this question came up in my heart: a serious question for the believer who stands on the edge of a very prophesied-about, very beautiful, yet terrifying day, which is the day of the Lord.

The question that came up in me is this: Where do you stand? Now, you see, as believers, this question is asked of us often: Where do you stand? It is asked of us in our daily interactions with people, whether that be loved ones, friends, or strangers on the street. The question is always asked, but sometimes not in so many words. You see, daily we cast our lots as to what kingdom we are for and which we are against. Someone cuts you off in traffic; what comes out of you is your lot that you cast. Your loved one goes through a difficult time; your reaction to this is your lot that is cast. So, as I sit here this morning, I'm asking you to seriously look at yourself and see: Where do you stand? I answered this question during my prayer this morning. With all my shortcomings and failures and my moments of weakness, my strong tower is the Lord; I run to God. This isn't to cast shame on anyone else, but I have learned to trust our Heavenly Father through thick and thin. And even with overwhelming pressure in life, God is still the peace in which I stand. Now, there is more to this question, and we are going to look at it now. This was just an overview of the question.

Jeremiah 7:23

https://www.bible.com/bible/1/JER.7.23

But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

This is a very interesting chapter to read when you understand it. If you go read all the different kings that ruled in Israel, you will see some did good before the eyes of the Lord, and some did abominations before God, yet they still called themselves Israel. We find this in many Christians today, too. The very same balance is struck, and it is over the kingdom of their heart. Some do right before the eyes of the Lord, and some do abominations. Now, what does this have to do with the question of where do you stand? Well, everything; it has everything to do with that question because it is how you answer it.

I will point to myself for this example, so judgment starts here in my heart first. If I stand on a Sunday and go to church, praising and worshiping God and inspiring people with words I heard from other fruitful trees, and then go home, sleep, and wake up Monday morning to the rage that I just ignored on a Sunday, am I bringing good fruit or offering to God? Or would that be considered abominations? You see, I do go to church on Sundays, but God doesn't only hear from me on a Sunday. As evidence of this message I'm writing to you today. But why do I point at myself and not just speak in general terms? You see, if the wrong is in me, how could I teach you the right way to do things? Did Christ not say to deal with the log in your own eye before concerning yourself with taking the splinter out of your brother's? You see, I'd rather point at myself than at you. Because only God knows your heart. But I know mine before Him. So, to speak of this "Where do you stand?" moment, it is that question: Does God only know you on a Sunday? Or when it's going bad in your life? Or you can fill in the blank as to when God knows you.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18

https://www.bible.com/bible/1/2CO.6.14-18

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them ; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch not the unclean thing ; And I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, And ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

I want you to look at this scripture and understand it. And then I want you to look at your life. And you see that question again can be asked: Are you unequally yoked with unbelievers? And reading the rest of the scripture points to this question of where do you stand. Now, you see, those who run off before gaining understanding would just go and cut off every non-believer in their life, saying in their hearts it's what God said to do. But then I have to ask you this question too: If the person who preached Jesus to you remained silent with that same message in their heart, would you yourself not still be like them? You see, this question of where do you stand is not only of if you stand for God or for this world, but do you stand in judgment, do you stand in love, do you stand in peace, or do you stand in vengeance?

Where, my friends, do you stand? Because we are called to separation, as given by this scripture. And in that, it is separation not just of the flesh but in the spirit too. You see, you are either led by the Holy Spirit of God or by a spirit of this world. You separate yourself unto God, and by God's instruction, you stand where He puts you. And sometimes that might be in a bar, to talk to those lost in the sorrow of this world, not to judge but to speak. Leave the judging to God. But using this bar as a good way to point to this separation of where you are standing, you see, you can be in that bar and never partake of it. No strong drink passes your lips, no swearing or foul speech leaves your heart. And then you walk out of there, maybe even bringing a fellow brother with you. You see, in desperation, people will turn to comfort. Now, for the believer, our comfort is in the Holy Spirit, who is the Comforter. Someone stuck in the world will try to find comfort in the world. Notice what I said: stuck in the world. And it's in this that we can then stand for Christ and reach out a hand and say, come, there is more room.

Every day we get to choose where we stand. And the prayer of my heart is that we choose Christ. Because one day we will stand either before Christ or before the White Throne. And then where we stood will be accounted to us, either as peace or judgment. Make the choice now while it is still free.

Selah Shalom.
