Sons in Faith
2 Timothy
Part 12 - 2 Timothy 2 - Known by the Father
2 Timothy 2:1-26 KJV
[1] Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. [2] And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. [3] Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. [4] No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. [5] And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. [6] The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. [7] Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. [8] Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: [9] wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. [10] Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. [11] It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: [12] if we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: [13] if we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. [14] Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. [15] Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. [16] But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. [17] And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenรฆus and Philetus; [18] who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. [19] Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. [20] But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. [21] If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. [22] Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. [23] But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. [24] And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, [25] in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; [26] and that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Note for 20250708
We are so blessed to have the opportunity to study the Word of GOD, and we know that it has been written that in the latter days there will be a famine for the Word of GOD. In some measure, we can say, because of false teachings, that it has partly set in already. For, of all the voices, who shall one hear? Hence, I say, reading the Word is still available, for the Holy Spirit will remind you of all Jesus said.
Today's reading, once more, is so rich in teaching that many sermons can be preached. I invite you again, find the audio version of this on YouTube. There will be more that I share there.
2 Timothy 2:19-20 KJV
[19] Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. [20] But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

GOD knows His own. We are not left with hope in what we can achieve, for we are not left to our own devices, but have a Heavenly Father that will plead with us. It is GOD that gives and strengthens faith. However, see who must depart from iniquity. Wood or silver, which cup are you?
His sheep knows the Voice of the Shepherd and will follow him. And as the first fruit of the resurrection, we ought to follow Him in that too. Jesus showed the way, friends. As Paul is heading to that journey, he comforts Timothy in the knowledge of what follows. Our hope is not of this world, but we look forward to the redemption to be with GOD, through our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Do you walk after the Spirit or the flesh? Is the law of GOD and the testimony of Jesus Christ with you? Maybe, I should state it just a bit more clearly, and I will do it like this: if the flesh cannot enter into the kingdom of GOD, nor the riches of this world, which is material, can you take a book or a phone with you? The Word of GOD is to be in you. If then a vessel, what do you contain? Good works are the result of a heart set right and filled with the Word of GOD, for the Holy Spirit will lead you in Christ.
Now, as Paul is urging Timothy to remember all that he taught him, so do I urge you. For, dust will return to dust, rendering to this world it's own. But, render unto God what is His, and is it not by the breath of GOD that man became a living soul? (Genesis 2:7) Is the Word not that which rides the winds of breath? By their fruit shall you know them, purify them with your words. For what the heart is full of will flow from the lips. Purge that which is not of GOD and drink in all that is of GOD, eat the Word like bread. (No, not to say you must eat paper, but what is on it, the Word, brings it into the heart.)
Once more, it is not me you need to follow, but do not neglect to follow Jesus Christ. If you do not follow, how can you come to where He is? In Word and deed, follow, so you may follow also through the grave and resurrection even unto ascension in redemption. Is it not written that the dead in Christ will rise first?
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV
[16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Paul also says right after this that we should comfort one another with these words. But also receive this:
Revelation 20:6 KJV
[6] Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
https://bible.com/bible/1/rev.20.6.KJV
It is not a retirement village we are heading to, friends. It is more like a birth, it is a renewal to what GOD intended. It is on the other side of what we call "sleeping in Christ" and the world calls death. The Father knows His own, and in no means will He leave His own to remain in the dust.
Psalm 16:10-11 KJV
[10] For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. [11] Thou wilt shew me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; At thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
https://bible.com/bible/1/psa.16.10-11.KJV
It's like David knew, hey? We must remember, the Holy Spirit came upon David, when Samuel anointed him. He knew.
Now we walk this earth, knowing in part, but one day, we will know and be known in full. Now we look as if through a glass dimly lit, but we will see clear, when we are redeemed. We believe in what is unseen as yet, but that which will manifest before us, with a shout, and as lightning lights up the heavens, the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of GOD. And it is here where I ask you friends, do you think Paul would tell the Thessalonians and keep it secret from the one he called his beloved son?
Paul is encouraging Timothy here, even to be as a soldier for Christ, not to consider his own affairs but to stand for Him for Whom he fights. He is preparing Timothy for when he is no longer there. Yes, we see Paul as Timothy's mentor, but also in a way as a father would speak to his loving son, knowing of what is coming. In this letter, we can learn from this conversation by Paul's reminder of the teaching he has received. If we have a hope for the same, then we can take this for us.
Selah, Shalom
Verse of The Day
From the YouVersion Bible App
Galatians 6:2 KJV
[2] Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
https://bible.com/bible/1/gal.6.2.KJV
But let us expand it today so we get the full context:
Galatians 6:1-5 KJV
[1] Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. [2] Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. [3] For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. [4] But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. [5] For every man shall bear his own burden.
