Sons in Faith

1 Timothy

Part 6 - 1 Timothy 2 - All People

Watch at:

1 Timothy 2:1-15 NASB2020

[1] First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people, [2] for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. [3] This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, [4] who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. [5] For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus, [6] who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. [7] For this I was appointed as a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. [8] Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger and dispute. [9] Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive apparel, [10] but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. [11] A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. [12] But I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. [13] For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. [14] And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a wrongdoer. [15] But women will be preserved through childbirth—if they continue in faith, love, and sanctity, with moderation.

I am convinced that most would have preferred if this chapter did not exist. No wonder there are groups that discount the writings of Paul the Apostle of Jesus Christ. Oh, people love to say, "that was back then, we live in modern times." But, I am not convinced after my journey through the Word of GOD. After all, it is also written that all fall short of the Glory of GOD.

1 Timothy 2:1 NASB2020

Maybe it is just a Bible Version thing? But, it is not, the KJV says it is the same only instead of "urge" the term "exhort" is used. Shall we now hunt through all versions of the Bible to find one that says it like we prefer, or worse, write a version so we are not in the wrong? Do we start a process of moderating the Word of GOD, saying, "I believe that, but not this?" Do we remove this chapter, so we can live a separatist's life? One, better than the other? Even as believers, are we not all sinners saved by grace?

It is written, and John 3:16 confirms, "For GOD so loved the World..."

The Bible is not written for us to point fingers at one another, it is like GOD'S finger pointing at each of us, beam in our own eye type of way, friends. Do you have a concern for all people? Or are there some you would rather not see saved?

You know how often I refer to Matthew 25:40, but let us look at verse 41 today.

Matthew 25:41 NASB2020

[41]  “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you accursed people, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;

For whom is that fire prepared, friends?

1 Timothy 2:3-4 NASB2020

[3] This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, [4] who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

What is wrong with Paul's writing here then, seeing that it is compared to the words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? Jesus spoke against Hypocrites, and it might be worthwhile to consider what a hypocrite is, and whether I am one. Each time, the finger points right back at me. I have seen that, because this word is to correct the "me in everyone."

There are sections here that I could have rather spoken about, even that might work in my favor, but should that not be met with the grace that Jesus showed me on that cross? We will all do well to bring the Word into us, that it changes us for good, and then we go out with the mercy of GOD for others.

That sadly does not remove what is written in this chapter, instead it confirms it. Every line and every character.

Now, while the lake of fire was not prepared for mankind, reading on in Matthew 25, you will see that there will be people that go into that. When man becomes a messenger for the devil, he makes himself as one of his angels. As ministers for Christ, our job is to get people out of that conviction and into the Salvation in Jesus Christ, not?

So while I can point my finger at women from today's scripture, I also know the scriptures that point straight at men like me. Receive from the Lord what is for you, let the Lord correct each according to His Word. But to teach something contrary to the Word we have been given, is to become a false teacher. I must admit, while I do not understand all of the Word, I know how to obey, even if I do not understand quite yet. There must be a higher reason that exceeds my understanding, so I will trust GOD.

1 Timothy 2 is a huge chapter to receive, and remember, this is Paul teaching his spiritual son. So, shall we pray for all people? Regardless of their skin colour or their address, should we pray for them, according to today's scripture? What about our political opponents, or our "enemies" at school or work, maybe even at home? May I show you something today that might open your eyes to something?

John 20:22-23 NASB2020

[22] And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. [23] If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”

https://bible.com/bible/2692/jhn.20.22-23.NASB2020

Should we pray and forgive, or pray and retain?

Matthew 6:14-15 NASB2020

[14]  For if you forgive other people for their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. [15] But if you do not forgive other people, then your Father will not forgive your offenses.

Can we now speak about the rest of the text in this chapter of 1 Timothy, or is it as I perceived, that enough has been said for each of us to investigate ourselves in the presence of GOD?
