The Gospel of Jesus Christ

According to Matthew

Part 135 - Mat 16 - Perspective

Watch at:

Matthew 16:1-28 KJV

[1] The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. [2] He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. [3] And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? [4] A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed. [5] And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. [6] Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. [7] And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. [8] Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? [9] Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? [10] Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? [11] How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees? [12] Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. [13] When Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? [14] And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. [15] He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? [16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. [18] And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. [20] Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. [21] From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. [22] Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. [23] But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. [24] Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. [25] For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. [26] For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? [27] For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. [28] Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Perspective

To focus on the message for today, I want to bring one of these versus to you from the Complete Jewish Bible for perspective:

Mattityahu (Mat) 16:23 CJB

[23] But Yeshua turned his back on Kefa, saying, “Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my path, because your thinking is from a human perspective, not from God’s perspective!”

https://bible.com/bible/1275/mat.16.23.CJB

Do I see things from my human perspective, or do I consider GOD'S perspective? You see, the understanding at that time from the perspective of the Prophets was that Christ would establish His Kingdom on Earth when He comes. Peter (Kefa/Rock or Pebble) had this understanding, for He declared that He believed Jesus was the Messiah and the Son of the Living GOD. At the time, it would have been far from their mind that the Messiah would be hung on a cross, even though the scriptures foretold it.

Isaiah 53:5-9 KJV

[5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. [6] All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. [7] He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. [8] He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. [9] And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

https://bible.com/bible/1/isa.53.5.KJV

But, we can't stop there, because you will understand Peter's perspective from the next verse, that, and his love for Christ.

Isaiah 53:10-11 KJV

[10] Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. [11] He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

https://bible.com/bible/1/isa.53.10-11.KJV

Now, I ask again, are we seeing things from GOD'S perspective or mankind's. Even language can play a role. Look, of the leaven of the Pharisees, here it is written that Christ said, "ye of little faith," but let me give you the verse from the CJB again.

Mattityahu (Mat) 16:8 CJB

[8] But Yeshua, aware of this, said, “Such little trust you have! Why are you talking with each other about not having bread?

https://bible.com/bible/1275/mat.16.8.CJB

In quoting from the CJB, I do not mean that you should read from it, (it can be quite hard to understand at times) but reference might help. No, I am merely showing you that there is another perspective, and that just among men, what still of comparing our perspective to that of GOD? For the human perspective, Christ said, Get behind me Satan; so what might the human perspective be? Is it not written too, "lean not unto your own understanding?" This is the parallax error I have spoken about so often.

"Of little trust" in this instance makes much more sense, though it does not exclude "little faith," understand?

They did not expect that Jesus would have to die for our sin, even though the Prophets said as much. But, we look at it in hindsight. No what, of what is and is to come might we be looking at with such a parallax error? What about this?

Matthew 16:28 KJV

[28] Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.16.28.KJV

What shall we lack in knowledge and understanding, then or even now? Oh, ye of little faith and trust. Is that something we might be able to hear if we heard correctly? Is Christ Jesus not at the right hand of the Almighty at this moment? What victory can Satan have over us at the Throne of GOD at this very moment? If he comes before GOD for permission to come against us, is Christ not right there?

1 John 2:1 KJV

[1] My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

https://bible.com/bible/1/1jn.2.1.KJV

John understood this and wrote about it.

Perspective! How often do we lack perspective? Christ, the Atonement for the repenting sinner is at the Throne of GOD. But, when might he turn to us, as he did to Peter and say, "Get behind Me Satan, for you are a stumbling block?" Has the Father and the Son not come to make their abode in us, by the Holy Spirit?

John 14:23-24 KJV

[23] Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. [24] He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.14.23-24.KJV

How much do we lack in perspective?

Matthew 16:28 KJV

[28] Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.16.28.KJV

Do we not hear by the Spirit of GOD that was poured out on us. Did we not recently celebrate Pentecost? How does the Father and the Son sup with us? How does Jesus partake from the wine with us? And all of a sudden, so much of what Christ said has more meaning now, not?

Luke 17:21 KJV

[21] neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

https://bible.com/bible/1/luk.17.21.KJV

Shall I quote too, how Christ said that He must go so another Comforter may come? But, I will, because it might help with perspective:

John 16:7-11 KJV

[7] Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. [8] And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: [9] of sin, because they believe not on me; [10] of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; [11] of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.16.7-11.KJV

What might this mean to you, viewed from man's perspective or GOD'S? Jesus did say, He gives His peace to us, not as the world gives, so gives He to us. Must I quote that too? Perspective, it is an important matter. Viewed from the kingdoms of men, or the Kingdom of GOD that is near, even at hand.

Selah, Shalom.
