Luke 19:1-48 KJV
[1] And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. [2] And, behold, there was a man named Zacchæus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. [3] And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. [4] And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. [5] And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. [6] And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. [7] And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. [8] And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. [9] And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. [10] For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. [11] And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. [12] He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. [13] And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. [14] But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. [15] And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. [16] Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. [17] And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. [18] And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. [19] And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. [20] And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: [21] for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. [22] And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: [23] wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? [24] And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. [25] (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) [26] For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. [27] But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. [28] And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem. [29] And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, [30] saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. [31] And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him. [32] And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them. [33] And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? [34] And they said, The Lord hath need of him. [35] And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. [36] And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. [37] And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; [38] saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. [39] And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. [40] And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. [41] And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, [42] saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. [43] For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, [44] and shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. [45] And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; [46] saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. [47] And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, [48] and could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

Note for 20250514
If it was possible, it would have pleased me if I could hear your comments on the reading today. I suppose the more interesting thing would have been your response if something likewise happened for you to see. I am speaking on how Christ went in to the house of this short publican and the murmuring of the crowd.
Like we have seen the past few days, once more here, we have a chapter that is rich in events and teachings by the Lord. Just like then, there are matters that many, including myself have spoken about before. For effect alone, I can say, "pounds have been handed out before." For many, their resources have been strengthened over-and-over when they were found wanting. What has the profit been of the investments? Over what shall you be given reign? Will you be brought high or will you be ashamed?
You see, he that did not make gains with what he was given lost what he had, while those that murmured against this austere man, who would not have him reign over them were killed. You have to consider the context in which the parable was shared. I hope that I have accomplished that by the use of words. Who murmured against the Lord Jesus Christ here, and why?
Who was intrigued by the fact that Christ simply called the publican by name? This man was so short he had to get in a tree to see Christ. Yet, Christ singled him out and went to dine at his house. As a publican, he was a tax collector, is it then a surprise that Christ use pounds in His parable? Who was it that murmured?
I suppose you can compare this to if a Pastor would have gone to eat with an unpopular politician today. Who would murmur? Who would gossip in disapproval? Or maybe, the Pastor went to eat with a known thief, or corrupt official; what would be said then? Maybe, he has gone into a gentleman's club, what would the tumors be then?
Let us look at some verses we read today:
Luke 19:7 KJV
[7] And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
https://bible.com/bible/1/luk.19.7.KJV
Luke 19:9-10 KJV
[9] And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. [10] For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
https://bible.com/bible/1/luk.19.9-10.KJV
Let us also look at the conclusion of the parable Jesus spoke:
Luke 19:27 KJV
[27] But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
https://bible.com/bible/1/luk.19.27.KJV
I ask you again, who was slain according to the parable and those that it was spoken to by comparison? Who murmurs against those that are set apart by GOD? How do you find and save the lost, if not going in to eat with sinners? Where else would you find the sinner? But I say, woe unto that servant who enters into a crowd of sinners to seek occasion to sin again. His fate would be worse than those he claimed to go and find.
You know, with what I do on a daily basis, I speak to groups and groups of people. Did you know that you can speak to a hoard of people and only have one or a few truly hear you? While the rest may not murmur against you, many have another form of trouble that counts against them. They give all appearances that they have heard, they stand and sit together, they raise their hands and speak along, while their minds are set apart to ponder on unholy things. You also have those that murmur no further than a thought. Their lips are sealed, but they stand in disagreement. These are the groups of people, divided up by the contents of their heart, unseen by man, but known to GOD. Who is it that would not have Christ rule over them? They say the right words, they go along with the flow of people, doing well with well doers and doing evil with the wicked. They are known to Him that will return to judge this World.
John 10:16 KJV
[16] And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.10.16.KJV
We are to remember the Words of Jesus Christ, and here is something you might have wondered about. Was Zacchaeus one of these? Did Christ not call us to continue with His work? What is it that can be said or done that will offend you to the point of murmuring? Maybe this, considering that Christ said that Zacchaeus was a son of Abraham:
Matthew 15:24 KJV
[24] But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.15.24.KJV
Read John 10:16 again, and then consider this:
John 10:4-5, 27-30 KJV
[4] And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. [5] And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
[27] My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: [28] and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. [29] My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. [30] I and my Father are one.
https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.10.4-30.KJV
Man is reluctant to hear the truth, they murmur far too soon. And before the truth can be revealed to them, they walk off in offense. So, if you are still here, unoffended and not murmuring, here are some verses for your comfort.
Galatians 3:6-9 KJV
[6] Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. [7] Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. [8] And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. [9] So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
https://bible.com/bible/1/gal.3.6-9.KJV
Galatians 3:29 KJV
[29] And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
https://bible.com/bible/1/gal.3.29.KJV
Romans 4:16 KJV
[16] Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
https://bible.com/bible/1/rom.4.16.KJV
Who are the murmuring crowd then, and who would not have Christ rule over them? So the goats are separated from the sheep. They cannot hear Christ Jesus, for He is not their Shepherd. No! They hear the voice of another that is full of offense and rebellion. They cannot obey the Lord, because they serve another. The separation is by Faith in Jesus Christ.
John 3:16-18 KJV
[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. [18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.3.16-18.KJV
Even though you eat bread slice by slice, would you not want to eat the whole loaf that is offered to you? In other words, don't you want to know the full truth in Jesus Christ?
Selah, Shalom

Philippians 4:6-7 KJV
[6] Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. [7] And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
