Part 111 - Luke 18 - What Say You

Luke 18:1-43 KJV

[1] And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; [2] saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: [3] and there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. [4] And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; [5] yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. [6] And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. [7] And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? [8] I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? [9] And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: [10] Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. [11] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. [12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. [13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. [14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.  [15] And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. [16] But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. [17] Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.  [18] And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? [19] And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. [20] Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. [21] And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. [22] Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. [23] And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. [24] And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! [25] For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. [26] And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? [27] And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.  [28] Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee. [29] And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, [30] who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.  [31] Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. [32] For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: [33] and they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. [34] And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.  [35] And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: [36] and hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. [37] And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. [38] And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. [39] And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. [40] And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, [41] saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. [42] And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. [43] And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

What Say You

When I was guided by the Lord to speed up my progress through the Gospel of Jesus Christ and read a chapter at a time, this was my concern, though I complied; that the contents of these chapters would exceed what I could cover in one session at a time. Nonetheless, that is what I was instructed to do. Today we have a few parables, healing and a certainty that GOD will avenge us, as we cry to Him. Amongst all of this, there is also where Christ says that He will fulfill all of what is written of the Son of man on the third day. Once more, I have to affirm that I am aware of the third day teaching, also of how it speaks to Christ's return. Of all that is prophesied, all that is written of that time, none strikes more fear into my heart for GOD than this passage:

Luke 18:7-8 KJV

[7] And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? [8] I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

I have not kept this a secret, I often speak on it, but, in context, still not enough. Now, I must admit that what I take away from this, I have not heard any others speak about outright. Still, there is this concern in me for the state of man at the end, that Christ indicates, what seems as a doubt, that He will find faith on the earth.

Friends, you have heard sermons on the parables and healing contained in this chapter since you were young. Who has not heard that those who exalt themselves will be brought low and the humble be raised? Who hasn't heard that Christ healed the blind, lame and deaf, or freed the captive and raised the dead?

As we consider the return of Jesus Christ, even here on what many call the approach of the third day, still I have concern for all in the hearing of these words again. When the Son of man returns will He find faith on earth?

Surely at this time there is faith on earth, not? Don't we hear of the claims of thousands upon thousands coming to repentance often now? With all the signs of the times being in clear view, and many who claim to believe in Jesus Christ, in this, my heart is troubled because something is amiss. Either the time is not yet, yet can I not say my Lord delays His coming; or, the faith that remains is not pure by the Standards of GOD. In reflection then, is the faith in me, the faith in you, worthy to receive the Lord?

You see, I have noticed something of mankind, we justify ourselves. It is our belief we trust in, not Jesus Christ. Is our faith not meant to be in Jesus Christ and not all the doctrines man has dreamt up? So, while there may be much I can write on today, none lies closer to my heart for our sakes, than to consider this statement of the Lord. Will He find faith in me when he returns? Is that fear of the Lord? So have I taken you along on my journey through the Gospels. We have read the words of the Apostles, though we are few that do. You see, I have also seen how mankind has adapted the Gospel to fit their own comforts in heart.

If man wants to be rich, he hears only prosperity teachings. If he lusts, he says GOD will understand, for Christ suffered for us in the flesh. When he wants to lay with another man, he says that he was made wrong, or skews the relationship between Jesus and John, David and Jonathan. If he gambles, he says that even the Israelite casted lots, and the adulterers say Jacob had many wives. And so I can go on and on, but each time I return to this one question that the Lord left to us, will He find faith in the earth when He returns? Or shall I ask, faith in what? Or rather, Who determines what is right? Does it weigh on the balance of a vote? I watch man with sorrow in my heart, for so much of what they believe, I haven't read of the Word of GOD. They take the tithes, but neglect the widows and the fatherless, they congregate, but lack in love for one another. Compassion and pity seems to be absent, together with charity and care. All I see, mostly, is concern for self. Man holds fast to his own opinions and neglects the Word of GOD. They care about the description "Christian" as if it is a family name, something they have inherited and show no change. I see trees without leaves or fruit, decorated with shiny things, but winter at the heart. Then I question myself in reminder of hypocrisy, is that just my opinion?

I have shouted loud, I have cried and pleaded with GOD, praying, forgive them Father, for they know not what they do. And still does this remain, man will do as he pleases. And rightly so, each of us must choose for ourselves, GOD gave us the right to choose, but so will the result of our choices come. Will it be our way, or GOD'S?

Now this remains for us to this day, how does the Words of Christ shame us within? Is faith yet alive in us? For it is my prayer that Christ will find faith in the earth at His return. If I may offer up some advice, my friends, try your heart everyday if it remains on Christ. Seek the Lord your GOD in all you do, and He will carry you through it all.

Friends, to judge what we hear and see, if it be good or evil, we need something to measure it against. Now, you can measure that by what you've heard, or you can read the standards for yourself in the Word of GOD. In the end, what say you? For that is the measure of your faith.

Selah, Shalom

Revelation 12:11-12 KJV

[11] And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. [12] Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
