The Gospel of Jesus Christ

According to Luke

Part 110 - Luke 17 - Be Ready

Watch at:

Luke 17:1-37 KJV

[1] Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! [2] It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. [3]  Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. [4] And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him. [5] And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. [6] And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. [7] But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? [8] And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? [9] Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not. [10] So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.  [11] And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. [12] And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: [13] and they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. [14] And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. [15] And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, [16] and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. [17] And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? [18] There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. [19] And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.  [20] And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: [21] neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. [22] And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it. [23] And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them. [24] For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. [25] But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation. [26]  And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. [27] They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. [28] Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; [29] but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. [30] Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. [31]  In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. [32] Remember Lot's wife. [33] Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. [34] I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. [35] Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. [36] Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. [37] And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.

Note for 20250512

Today is a substantial amount to consider, not so much in verses as what is said therein. Christ spoke on matters by bringing them in a likeness to what was known. In that, there is a sense that those who are unfamiliar on the matters of Noah and the flood and Lot and his wife may lack depth of what was said. Also, those that lack knowledge of who the Samaritans were, and why Christ called the man a stranger, though through his belief he was healed. The Disciples understood, because they asked Jesus to increase their faith. When will these things be and what will it be like?

You know, each time I read through a section of the Word I learn more each time? To the point that it becomes harder and harder to relay, because first I must reestablish what was learned before, so that what was added may be carried over. But, I am often given relief on this by the Holy Spirit, knowing that as GOD has added unto me, He will add unto you. Woe though to the one who looks back, never learning where salvation has come from. It will be like the days of Noah and Lot, do you understand? If you want to know, should you not reference it?

For The account of Noah and the Flood, refer back to Genesis 6-9. For the account of Lot and the destruction that came to Sodom, read Genesis 19, a chapter before and after can help to bring some context, even of how GOD communicated with Abraham in this regard. The sheer volume of text to reference in this regard prevents me from dealing with it here in just one session. As Christ spoke here, he spoke to those who knew of these matters and so should we know of it to understand. It requires a full understanding of the relevance. So must we become ready having knowledge of these things to understand what is coming. If not, then our hearts might just fail for what we see come upon the earth. Fire and Brimstone, floods and earthquakes in diverse places, extreme and worse than has ever been or will be again. And still, there is even more, including the ignorance of those that stood in the way of such danger.

Now, I have to focus on something out of this scripture, since I can not discuss it all, for I fall short in time. So, I would like us to look at something that sets the tone for all that is said in this chapter.

Luke 17:3 KJV

[3]  Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

https://bible.com/bible/1/luk.17.3.KJV

You see, if you cannot forgive one another, then you are unprepared. What do we learn in the Lord's prayer? That we will be forgiven as we forgive one another. Tell me: Is there a requirement of repentance? Selah. (Consider deeply what you just heard)

You see, the LORD is just and fair. By your own works will you be judged, as you judge, so will you be judged. If you live by the sword, then you shall die by the sword. And eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Mercy unto the merciful, that will be true too. But, it is by the heart that man will be judged, so pretense is in vain. If you speak of love but hate in your heart, your hypocrisy will separate you from your salvation. So, it is the heart that must be prepared.

Psalm 4:3-4 KJV

[3] But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: The LORD will hear when I call unto him. [4] Stand in awe, and sin not: Commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

This is what I read last night before I went to sleep. Of all I read, this was the only two verses that I was led by the Holy Spirit to single out in highlight. So too, was I only reminded of it just now. Do you think David, who knew the Holy Spirit, knew something about conditioning his heart? Is David not known for his repenting heart?

Okay, so a lot has been said. As best I can, I will attempt to bring it into focus. You prepare by preparing your heart, so that it will not fail you in the hour of your distress. The preparation is to know the LORD, and that you are known of Him. And yes, I do indeed mean known in conversation. We can not come before the Lord in hypocrisy. He knows it all. Is there then a need for me to remind you that this is not the only time the LORD speaks on forgiveness?

Luke 23:34 KJV

[34] Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

https://bible.com/bible/1/luk.23.34.KJV

Now, while this is not the only other time, it is the time that has made the greatest impact on me. (I can only give from what I received.) Tell me, in this account, was there repentance before Christ prayed for them? And I put it to you, that in this moment, Christ prayed for all of mankind. For so many of mankind truly stands in a severe "unknowing" state of mind. Note, this prayer only covers those who do not know. Can you repent of what you do not know? Likewise, if you know, should you then not be required to repent. Now, we can not argue that someone had to know, for it is impossible for us to know this truth, unless the Lord reveals it to us.

Acts 7:59-60 KJV

[59] And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. [60] And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

https://bible.com/bible/1/act.7.59-60.KJV

Friends, do you think Stephen understood this? In the final moments of his life, he pleads with GOD for those that came against him. Did they repent? Well, one did that we know of, and that is Paul, who stood in witness, holding the garments of those who were stoning Stephen.

Friends, it is all about an honest heart before the Lord your God and, of course, forgiveness in Jesus Christ. This is not something that can be faked before the Throne of GOD. Only those that received forgiveness in Christ can comprehend what it is about. "Lay not this sin to their charge." Stephen forgave them of that one charge, the rest was on them. Do you understand? Love covers a multitude of sin. As we judge, so will we be judged. Yes, even in the time of the judgment of GOD, what we are introduced to here and will soon learn more of. The day of the Lord.

Selah, Shalom
