The Gospel of Jesus Christ
According to Luke
Part 106 - Luke 13-14 - An Invitation to Supper
Luke 13:31-35 KJV
[31] The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee. [32] And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. [33] Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. [34] O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! [35] Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Luke 14:1-24 KJV
[1] And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him. [2] And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy. [3] And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? [4] And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; [5] and answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? [6] And they could not answer him again to these things. [7] And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, [8] When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; [9] and he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. [10] But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. [11] For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. [12] Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. [13] But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: [14] and thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. [15] And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. [16] Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: [17] and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. [18] And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. [19] And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. [20] And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. [21] So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. [22] And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. [23] And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. [24] For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

Now you have read briefly of the Lord's lament over Jerusalem and of all those that were invited to the supper table, but who had excuses. Don't see this text separately, just because it spans over more than one chapter, the earlier chapter continues on in chapter 14.
Yesterday, we only spoke of the third day's message briefly, and today it is part of the greater message which is of the Supper Invitation of The Lord. Who can say, I have been called to eat with GOD? I know, it sounds presumptuous, but it is Christ that makes the comparison, not me.
Of course, the three day mission Christ proclaims in Luke 13:31-33 is about His ministry that is completed on the third day, when He is resurrected to the Glory. Victory over sin and death, resurrected to perfection. Once more, I urge you to understand, it is Christ that said it. Now, for those with a deeper study into these things, I am aware of the third day teaching, even how it points to Christ's reign on earth in Jerusalem. I am aware that we are invited to that supper too, but for now, we are called to communion.
It is here where still so much is misunderstood. The invitation that is open now, which includes inclusion to the greater feast to come. Just a week ago or so, there was a serious conversation in my house regarding this, about how the Hebrew honeymoon is a year long, which is followed by the wedding feast. Which marks a greater understanding needed, as the offer of marriage is made here and now, with a betrothal. Now, I write this to those who have searched these matters out. And yes, in the text today, one of the excuses offered is that a man has taken a wife and could not attend the supper, but that was not the only excuse made. The other two were of earthly gain too. While to some, this may seem cryptic, it is for those that search things out deeply. Who are you married to then? When will the honeymoon be? Is it of the world or of heaven?
However, it does not exclude the obvious. The parable was given with all its levels. And at the core of it, still there is an invitation made. What excuses might be offered up at this time, is there still some series you wish to finish watching? Must the car be serviced and the house be painted before you will have time for GOD? Don't you know the Holy Bread is eaten with the LORD? Don't you know it is an intimate event? So we receive our daily Bread. We receive in a separate communion, almost as a meal for two, where the soul of man meets with the Spirit of GOD. Did the Lord not say to remember Him in this way, in the bread and wine? What is sampled then, is it of this world or the one to come?
Jerusalem was invited, but they declined, so the Gentiles too were called in to the supper of the Lamb. Who prepared the meal? Who set its courses? What is it that we must bring in, bread and wine that will satisfy the flesh? Yet, still should we not neglect to invite the Lord to our meals too, for where two or three are gathered in His Name, there He is.
Today, I can not help but sense that I am writing to just a few, maybe even to just one. But friends, don't you know that there is sufficient at the Lord’s table to satisfy all that has gone hungry or thirsty? What is it that your soul thirst for, is it of this world or of where Christ came from? What shall fill your soul, what will bring it to completion and perfection?
Today, I invite all who hunger and thirst to the supper table of GOD, for I was sent too, to extend His invitation to all I find. There is a place for you, the number is not full yet. Believe me, when it is full, the doors shall be shut. But I urge you, do not make excuses anymore, not for worldly property or pleasure. Take up the invitation of the Lord Jesus Christ and meet Him at the table. For His Water will quench your thirst, His Bread will fill you and give you an increase that you can feed others too.
Now, there is another matter that must be addressed today. And for the sake of understanding I will state it clearly. I know that there are those that say these messages are too long to read or listen to. To use a metaphor from the note today, don't you know that it takes much more time to prepare the meal than to eat it?
For the immediate: I invite you to find the audio version of this note on YouTube later today, GOD willing. Search for @houseofLechem. It should be available in the next 6 to 8 hours or so. Hey, I told you it takes a long time to prepare it.
Selah, Shalom.
