Luke 12:1-21 KJV
[1] In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. [2] For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. [3] Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. [4] And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. [5] But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. [6] Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? [7] But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. [8] Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: [9] but he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. [10] And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. [11] And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: [12] for the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say. [13] And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. [14] And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? [15] And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. [16] And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: [17] and he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? [18] And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. [19] And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. [20] But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? [21] So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

What we read here this morning was many shorter statements made by our Lord when He came in the flesh. In the KJV, this comes under the heading of "The Leaven of the Pharisees."
What is the meaning of hypocrisy and why is it spoken of here in relation to, what is covered shall be revealed? Are we without shame? Do we make ourselves out as perfect, and yet unravel when we are tested? In truth, each of us know our own shortcomings, but maintain appearances like a crack in a wall that has been plastered over for a sale.
Oh! How I was perfect already. Truly, for then I would not have all these trials and tribulations to go through anymore. When all that is not of Christ is removed from me, then would this race of life be run and won at the finishing line. Though, I hope to be in a state of perfection, why then do I then find all these hairline fractures beneath the mortar of the house? Though I do not want to be, still do I so often find a sinner in the mirror. How often still will self interest come through, how often still will I stand for what I want? No! In reflection of a search of self, shamefully, I still find error within me. You see, the wall must not just be well plastered and painted, it must be functional, to carry the weight of the roof and keep out the thread from weather and the enemy. In a stress test then, why does this wall still shake? Shall I build up support struts every few meters or so? Shall I plaster that too, and make it some kind of interesting feature? For one thing is sure, when the storm comes, when the flood flows, if this wall does not hold, the house will come down.
The Lord is my Strength, for my own is known to be weak. It is He that keeps this wall up from falling over in a gust. All the times that it has been tested, it is by the Mercy of GOD alone, that it remains standing. It is an old wall now, it has seen many disasters since it was built. And I wonder, was it reserved for a purpose?
Friends, is anything sure unless it is tested? Or, would you rather have a stranger on the roof because you do not trust the wall? Without Christ, I know that I will fall. Without the Holy Spirit, I know that I will get lost, for I am a sinner saved by grace. Are the waters that push against the wall not like the opinions of many, of what they may say of us? And is our instruction in the Word of GOD then not to be spotless? Then why do I still fail if not there where I stand for a purpose of my own alone?
You know, it has been a long while now since I started writing here. Who was here at the beginning? Can you remember how I said that this here was in response to the Word of GOD? My own introspection, as I look in the mirror. And yes, indeed it has become more, but still at its core it is also that. What is it that I find when I look inside, a strong wall or one patched up? You see, by experience I have found that what I build up is weak, and what GOD established is strong. And, should you wonder why I am speaking of architecture in response to today's reading, it is because of this: man's opinions are much like the leaven of the Pharisees and Scribes. So, my hope is to remain in consultation with the Master Architect of all Creation. For GOD knows how to fortify the weak walls, He is Trustworthy, for by Him alone am I still yet left alive. I know I need correction, and that is worked on, beam by beam. But, what is the wall built for, is it for GOD'S purpose or mine?
You see, it is in relation, was there not a building project in our reading too? Why build a bigger and stronger barn, if we will not endure the night? Let the barn then stand for the riches of GOD, for He lives forever and ever. What we then do, may it be for GOD, even if I am just one brick in that wall that is meant to lay still in place for the protection of the treasures of GOD. Did I cement myself in, or did the Builder take me and put me in place?
May GOD'S will be done, not mine.
Selah, Shalom
