Luke 10:25-42 KJV
[25] And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? [26] He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? [27] And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. [28] And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. [29] But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? [30] And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. [31] And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. [32] And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. [33] But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, [34] and went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. [35] And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. [36] Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? [37] And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. [38] Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. [39] And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. [40] But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. [41] And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: [42] but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

This morning, a fellow believer sent me this:

1 Chronicles 3:4 KJV

How old was Jesus when He went to the cross? The 7 and 6 months I feel like speaks to something to I just can't see where it's pointing to"
Now, you might think, what has this to do with the parable of the Good Samaritan? Well, the verse itself, in the plain speak of it, maybe not so much, but Phillip's question might lean closer to it. Remember, that parables were used so the Spirit may reveal the truth to us, but that the truth does not fall into the wicked, that they should believe. This too is a lesson unto itself (and often missed.)
So, what is the obvious here, yes Jesus is counted 33 years old when He went to the cross around 30CE. (There is more to just this too.) But, what is the sevens and the sixes in symbology of. Well, 6 is the number of man, just like there were six steps up to the throne of Solomon's throne and man was created on the 6 days out of the dust of the earth. The 7, of course, is counted to the seven fold Spirit of GOD, as we read in the book of Revelation. It speaks to the Sabbath day, and the rest of GOD. Surely there are no need for me to state references to it. Revelation 19:10 speaks of the testimony of Jesus Christ being the Spirit of Prophecy, and we know that Christ fulfilled the Law and the Prophets. The ministry of Christ was about 3 and a half years or 42 months. Now, of course, much can be said of all this, but how does this fit into the message today about the Good Samaritan, and what we have learned from the account of Martha and Mary?
Now let us look at the way of man, as it is resembled by the "6" today. Was it neighbourly of Mary to leave Martha to serve alone? Was it neighbourly of Martha to complain about Mary to Christ? But, Christ speaks for Mary, that what she chose, "namely the Word of GOD" outweighs the cares in this world. And, the Word of GOD, is what prophecy is about, making the will of GOD known to man. The silent part in this which can only come by the Holy Spirit of GOD, is that Jesus stepped up in defense of her that was being accused, an attack when you bring it in comparison to the parable, showing Christ then actively involved in the defence of man as he took pity on her that was being accused. We see the same, when the woman caught in adultery is presented to Christ in a judgment of what should be done to her, and we know that ends in a forgiveness too.
Now, you would surely think that the priest and the Levite would surely have helped the injured man, but he was near dead, and the dead was considered unclean. So, they would have to go through the cleansing procedure before they would be permitted into the temple again. But, the Good Samaritan not only came near the man, he bound his wounds and took him to an inn with him, and paid the full price for the injured to be taken care of. The Good Samaritan is an example of what Christ has done on the cross for us, saving us from the debt of sin, which is death.
Oh, all of these are full of 7's and 6's, the way of man versus the way of GOD. Jesus said that He does nothing except that which He sees the Father do. GOD created man in His own image, and has been acting in a way of at least neighbourly love towards man. Does He not permit it to rain on both the righteous and the wicked? Has He not given man all the time in the world to come to repentance of their sin? But, the ultimate show of that love comes to us when Christ takes our burdens upon Himself, and further leaves the Spirit of GOD with those who accepted His "help." We were, as to say, left for dead by the side of the road as victims of the enemies of GOD. Jesus sends the Holy Spirit to us, to care for us, just as the Good Samaritan hands the care of this man to the Innkeeper, until he returns. The similarities are without end, and so we can see the Good Samaritan as the Son of GOD, that will (and have) settle all the debts that we have. By His Stripes, we are Healed and by His death we can live. That is the Kingdom of GOD, that the Son of GOD would be neighbourly to us, even bringing us so close to Him, that we can become the sons of GOD.
There is much in the life of King David that points to Christ, even in this, that he loved his enemy, King Saul, and refused to take his life when it was in his hand. These numbers here in 1 Chronicles 3:4 can be seen as "a hat tip" to the Messiah once more.
But, man is reluctant of such love for one another. No, like the priest and the levite, we pass on the far side of the road when someone is in trouble, even withholding the Word of GOD from many, in a "no care" attitude. Aren't we the Body of Jesus Christ, would Christ leave someone stranded? GOD did not forget us, how can we then forget one another?
Here we look at Martha and Mary again, and Christ indicates that Mary chose well. She chose the one thing that is needful, that being, Jesus Christ the Word of GOD. If we then serve, let us serve without complaint and accusation, but the Word of GOD remains more needful than anything else we can serve. Yet, should we not suffer others to go hungry or thirsty if it is in our hand to help. But, then serve also that which is needful. Shall I repeat Matthew 25:40 again, or is it known by now? I will leave it for you to go read on your own again.
There is so much more that I could share with you on this, but I am reminded of portions, less we become like gluttons and choke on what we receive because of volume. This then both the note of the day, and the answer to the question I was asked. I pray that it is enough for you today. I will bring more, when I return.
Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, for all that You have done for us. Blessed be the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Thy will be done. Amen.
Selah, Shalom
