Luke 7:36-50 KJV
[36] And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. [37] And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, [38] and stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. [39] Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. [40] And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. [41] There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. [42] And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? [43] Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. [44] And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. [45] Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. [46] My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. [47] Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. [48] And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. [49] And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? [50] And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

Note for 20250414
We have been brought up to do what is proper according to the moral values of mankind, mostly in any way. We taught that there is a proper time to stand and sit, to bow and to stand straight. We are taught to stand in line, wash our hands before we eat and many more matters like these, and of these, the Pharisees were trained to perfection before the Law of Moses. All matters were divided into proper and improper things, clean and unclean things. Over and above the precise teachings of Moses, there was also the guidance of the Rabbi's. And as we recently read here in Luke, perfection is when one is like the master. It must have been hard for Simon the Pharisee to see Jesus being touched by this sinful woman. Today we know that all are sinners, yet, do we still divide the people in the old ways?
Today, we read one of my mother's favorite sections in the Bible. When I tell her that we must cut her hair, it is getting in the way, she quickly responds with something like, "How will I dry the feet of Jesus then?"
This parable that Jesus tells Simon is such a great one to remember. Knowing that those who have been forgiven the most will also have the most zeal for GOD. That makes me wonder, do some of us then think that we are blameless, even perfect before the LORD? Is it not written that all fall short of the Glory of GOD? I know when Christ warned the disciples about the leaven of the Pharisees He spoke of their teachings, but may it have included a form of classification too? Man is somewhat concerned with differences between us, some are too light and some too dark, too light or too heavy; when is good then good enough? Which brings me to the focus of today's message.
Have you ever noticed how often credit and honour is given by GOD to those who were uncommon? This woman was a known sinner, and she uncommonly washed the feet of Christ with her tears and dried it with her hair, but what about Abram who smashed the idols that his father made, and nearly killed Isaac in human sacrifice to GOD? Can we remember Hosea, how GOD instructed him to marry a prostitute? And who reduces the force of men against many, like Gideon did?
Has GOD ever asked you to do something that is not so common among believers? Did He not send one of His prophets to bury underwear at the Euphrates, only to be dug up later for a comparison to the ruin of Judah? (Jeremiah 13) Yes, in a similar way was the young Jews their in Babylon with Daniel, different from others, for they would not give up their faith even at the risk of death.
Think of Elisha, in the city of Dothan, with the Aramean forces camped against him. How he prayed to God to reveal to his servant the forces that stood on their behalf. (2 Kings 6:8-17) Yes, he was encouraged once he saw what Elisha knew, that the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire.
For the believer, there are often unseen things that inspire us and give us confidence when others would shake and tremble. That has brought us somewhat of a likeness to a strange and uncommon type of people. Even in this day, where there is a common faith in Christ, and yet does some still stand out as uncommon, for they walk not in the common way of the faith of man in GOD, but move because of that fire protection of the LORD. And then you still have those that believe that the enemy’s master is associated with fire, was it not a chariot of fire that collected Elijah in the sight of Elisha?
Friends, true faith is uncommon, know that please. In the face of adversity, the wheat and the chaff are soon separated from one another. When fanned in the air, and the winds blow through it, even as man is tested by circumstances, faith is separated from mere practice.
Here, at Simon the Pharisee's house, the proper way is compared to true repentance and forgiveness. For this woman had much debt at the throne of GOD, and her debt was forgiven by the Son of GOD, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. The question today is then this: do you invite Christ in to eat with you, or do you fall at His feet? I know this is a hard comparison, but are we not sometimes filled by ideas that we are worthy to stand in God's presence? We are worthy in Christ, yes. But, without Christ, we should be on our knees in tears of regret.
Now there are two scriptures in the Word of GOD, where Christ's feet will be stained red. Isaiah 63:1-6 and Revelation 19:11-16. Who will wash the feet of Christ then? Now, of course, I am bringing two types majorly separate and different scriptures together here, but the question is precise: will you stand or bow then?
This scripture in Luke portrays those that can repent and those justified in their own righteous acts. The woman is forgiven by Christ, and the Pharisee deem himself worthy of eating with the Son of GOD, even so much as to judge Jesus for permitting an unclean woman to touch Him. What may appear uncommon to one, might just be salvation for another. So, receive what you receive from the Word of GOD by the Spirit. Else, you might just sup on common things.
Selah, Shalom

Matthew 23:37-39 KJV
[37] O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! [38] Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. [39] For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Quoted Scriptures
Isaiah 63:1-6 KJV
[1] Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. [2] Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? [3] I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. [4] For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. [5] And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. [6] And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

Revelation 19:11-16 KJV
[11] And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. [12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. [13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. [14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. [15] And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND Lord OF LORDS.
