Luke 5:12-26 KJV

[12] And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. [13] And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. [14] And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. [15] But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities. [16] And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. [17] And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judæa, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. [18] And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. [19] And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. [20] And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. [21] And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? [22] But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? [23] Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? [24] But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. [25] And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. [26] And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

“Focus”

Strange title, for a scripture reading that ends with "We have seen strange things to day." Even as I wonder on the strange spelling of "to day" in the KJV versus our regular use of "today." Thinking, do we live to day (this day, to the light of day) or to night? I suppose that would be a focus thing too.

Without repeating what we have just read unnecessarily, what do you consider might speak to a matter of focus? We can look at the two that were mentioned for healing and say, "Be healed." We can look at the forgiveness of sin, even how Jesus said that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sin and ponder what it may mean now that Christ lives in us. Even how He said to his disciples what you remit on earth is remitted in heaven and what you retain is retained in heaven. Even how love covers a multitude of sins.

So, today indeed is about focus, for the Pharisees and scribes were focused on finding fault, the masses on being healed and Jesus on healing and teaching, and yes, forgiving sins and speaking freedom to those bound.

So, here is the verse that is highlighted for to day.

Luke 5:14 KJV

[14] And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

https://bible.com/bible/1/luk.5.14.KJV

Even here we can focus on how the leper was sent to show himself to the priest, and offer for the cleansing, according as Moses commanded... or we can see, "for a testimony unto them." Do you see it? Why was the leper sent to the priest, for the sake of the leper or for the sake of the priest? Do you honestly think Jesus did not know that the man would tell people, even the priests, how he was healed?

Let me show you another section and try to see the focus of the scripture, and this one is a little more involved. Some lessons are obvious and others more subtle, which can be understood with a little further knowledge of the Word.

Luke 5:22-25 KJV

[22] But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? [23] Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? [24] But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. [25] And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

https://bible.com/bible/1/luk.5.22-25.KJV

The obvious is what Jesus says outright, that they may know that the Son of man has the power on earth to forgive sin, then He confirms it by showing that He also has the power to heal [much like he did with the leper.] The sin of the man is forgiven, he is healed, but there is also the testimony of Jesus that He is the promised Messiah as He fulfills what was prophesied by the Prophets of GOD. So, the one who had palsy returned home, a lame man walking, [and here is a secondary subtle but significant focus,] "glorifying God." I tell you that this is the main focus, that GOD be glorified in all.

Now I did say that those with more knowledge of the Word [in other words, those that actively read the Bible] will be able to see more. For that, let us then go to another scripture that speaks of healing too.

John 9:1-5 KJV

[1] And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. [2] And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? [3] Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. [4] I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. [5] As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jhn.9.1-5.KJV

From verse 3, the focus which I want to highlight is by what Christ answered is this... "but that the works of God should be made manifest in him." [That GOD be glorified there in.] Even when you go and read all of this account in John 9, there too can you do a study of what people focus on, and what Jesus and GOD focus on, seeing that the Father and the Son is One by the Testimony of Jesus Christ Himself.

Now, who saw the mention of day and night? Who saw the words that confirms John 1, that Jesus Christ is the Light of men? Talking then of focus, what is your "to day" focus on, while man can still work, for by the Holy Spirit, Christ have not left us, nor forsake us. Is it then still day for you, or has it become like night? Is there still grace within you, or has grace been replaced by hate?

Who then gets upset, even to the point of having murder in heart, when someone's sin is forgiven and they are healed? Is that too vague? Shall I ask this then, who becomes envious and slanders those who GOD permits a blessing to, whether it be healing, forgiving of sins or wealth and fame? Should I quote Psalm 37 next?

Where is your focus at? How does your focus align with the will of GOD? He who lets the rain fall on both the wicked and the righteous, for His own purpose. He gives and takes, He forgives and will condemn. Each statement here brought by the Spirit of GOD, in the Name of Jesus Christ, just as Revelation 19:10 confirms. That the Testimony of Jesus Christ is the Spirit of Prophecy.

Is your focus on finding fault, or to be healed and saved? My hope is that it might be to Glorify our Father GOD in heaven by His Son, Jesus Christ, Who is made manifest in us, by the Holy Spirit that in-dwell with us, just as the Prophets of GOD has written of. My hope is that you will see and hear, focus on the LORD and live in the day and not the night. My hope is that you will change direction [repent] and walk out of the night and into the day, that the Light of Christ may shine in you. For such a reason do I labour for the Kingdom of GOD, in line with the will of GOD, that all be saved and none be lost, that GOD may be praised, and thanksgiving may flow from the lips of mankind.

That is the focus for today, that your sins may be forgiven, salvation may come and that GOD be glorified in all. Hallelujah, Amen.

Selah, Shalom.

Verse of The Day

From the YouVersion Bible App (Expanded from verse 10 and 11)

Philippians 3:8-12 KJV

[8] Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, [9] and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: [10] that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; [11] if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. [12] Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
