The Son of GOD

The Audio Version of today’s note

John 1:15-51 KJV

[15] John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. [16] And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. [17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. [18] No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. [19] And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? [20] And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. [21] And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. [22] Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? [23] He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. [24] And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. [25] And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet? [26] John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; [27] he it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. [28] These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.  [29] The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. [30] This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. [31] And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. [32] And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. [33] And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. [34] And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.  [35] Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; [36] and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! [37] And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. [38] Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? [39] He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. [40] One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. [41] He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. [42] And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. [43] The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. [44] Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. [45] Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. [46] And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. [47] Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! [48] Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. [49] Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. [50] Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. [51] And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

John 1:29 KJV

[29] The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

How did these disciples of Christ so clearly recognize Jesus as the Promised Messiah, when the Pharisees enquired concerning John the Baptist, if he be the Christ or that prophet? Which means they knew that Christ would come, even him that would come in the spirit of Elijah. Concerning this other prophet they enquired about, I do not know.

John, the Baptist, did only baptize with water and they enquire of him if he is the messiah, but Christ performs the prophesied miracles, and Him they killed. Which convinced me further of the truth when Christ said that they come from the synagogue of Satan. But, these "ordinary" and "every day, common folk without higher education" perceive Jesus to be the Messiah. John, the Baptist, testified of Him that He is the Son of GOD. He says this, even before He baptised Jesus.

Who do you say Jesus of Nazareth is? Within you, what is it that you know? What is that in you calling out? Is it reverence, love, hope; maybe even excitement at the mere mention of His Name?

Do you know that there are those that cringe at His Name? In our day, here in 2024, there are those that become like rabbit dogs when they hear the name of Jesus Christ. "Don't you mention that Name here!" is what their inner-parts shout out to them. These are they that will run to the mountains and call on the earth to fall on them, to cover them from the wrath of the Lamb of GOD at His return. They are not indifferent. They do not stand in ignorance. No! When they hear the Name of Jesus Christ their spirit is stirred up straight to a place of hate. "We struggle not against flesh and blood." A man is comprised of either love or hate. These are according to "the seed" that was sown into this world. Some wheat, others tares even that with thorns and thistles. We are servants of the Lord Jesus Christ, to us it was given, "by their fruit shall you know them."

Here in the scripture we read today, we read of John the Baptist's testimony, of him who Christ said, that he is Elijah that has come. Do you believe the testimony of Jesus Christ? Then know this too, that is a prophecy fulfilled, and Christ declared it. John prepared the way for Christ, by baptizing with water. As it is written by the Prophet Isaiah.

So, then, this question remains to ponder on: Who do you say Christ Jesus is? What is the testimony of your heart, mind and soul?

Shalom.

Note 20231202

What is your testimony of Christ? How was Christ revealed to you? Also in reading this morning, was Luke 5, but the Holy Spirit urged me on to read unto here. Here in John, I was brought to pause.

It is not uncommon for people to ask you, “Who are you?” We respond with our name, sometimes offering more than was asked. So we testify of ourselves; “I am John,” or, “I am Matthew.” Whatever you are called, that is the name you give. When pressed further, we may say, “I am a farmer,” or, “I am a policeman.” Whatever you do, that is who you say you are. Now, there are many claims that can be made after the words, “I am.” That is what we think establishes our identity. Who of us will respond, “I am a sinner?” Or, maybe, like John the Baptist here, “I am not the Christ.” No, we soon identify ourselves by what we think sets us apart, “I am a Lawyer” or doctor or the son of someone famous. We answer in a way that is most likely to bring us in favor with those who asked the question, or those we meet.

What then is my identity? I look at myself, because I know myself better than I know anyone else. I live within this body that is presented as my dwelling place here in this world. I am the child of Someone famous, my life established by the breath of GOD. He placed me in this body, the son here of whom He chose for me. This time and place, by His divine Wisdom. Other than my Father in Heaven, (that I am still finding out as I live through it) I have discovered the sinner, the rebel and the son of my mother and my father here. I looked and saw that this state of me is undesirable, broken and ill. My mindset and emotions were all jammed up and skewed.

But, when I come before the LORD, He made me and knows all of me. The bits I hid from others, that which not even my parents came to know. GOD sees me as I am. That of which I am embarrassed about, my error and my failures; that too He knows. Things that would have me expelled from society, things that would bring ridicule. And when my Father saw me like that, He had compassion on me and offered up His own Son to save me from where I was heading. When others would have dismissed me, pushed me away, locked me up or even killed me; Christ died in my place so I could live. So who am I, I am because of the Love and Mercy of GOD. By the Grace of GOD and the price paid by Christ, I am. No longer a policeman or a photographer or my father’s son. I am just a man that GOD loves. Without GOD’S love, I would not exist. I would not be who I am; I would have some foreign identity, destined for damnation. Forgotten and discarded like a worthless rag.

By the Love of GOD, we are presented the opportunity to become the children of the Living GOD, but we must shed that old identity. We must remove our citizenship of the World and pursue righteousness in Christ, for citizenship in our Father’s Kingdom. That Kingdom has a different set of rules and regulations to live by, all found in what we know as the Word of GOD. So, I may fail to uphold those while I am still here, a stranger to this world, but in Christ Jesus, my citizenship stands in Heaven. I am thus a Child of GOD, made by GOD. He, the Potter; and I, the clay. He forms and moulds me. I am a vessel for His Holy Spirit, that is who I am. Like a bottle, I can only hold that which GOD places in me.

Some day, our LORD will come; as sure as the Holy Spirit is here now. His approach to earth will shake the Heavens and the Earth, so were we told. Then, we will go home; each in place, according to reward. For each there is a place, yes; even for those who rejected Christ until the end. That, then, the result of choices made here. I belong in the Hand that made me, GOD will place me where I belong. I was made for His purpose, for His pleasure.

Shabbat Shalom.

Job 40:1-2 KJV

[1] Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, [2] Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? He that reproveth God, let him answer it.

Job 40:6-24 KJV

[6] Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, [7] Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. [8] Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? [9] Hast thou an arm like God? Or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? [10] Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; And array thyself with glory and beauty. [11] Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: And behold every one that is proud, and abase him. [12] Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; And tread down the wicked in their place. [13] Hide them in the dust together; And bind their faces in secret. [14] Then will I also confess unto thee That thine own right hand can save thee. [15] Behold now behemoth, Which I made with thee; He eateth grass as an ox. [16] Lo now, his strength is in his loins, And his force is in the navel of his belly. [17] He moveth his tail like a cedar: The sinews of his stones are wrapped together. [18] His bones are as strong pieces of brass; His bones are like bars of iron. [19] He is the chief of the ways of God: He that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. [20] Surely the mountains bring him forth food, Where all the beasts of the field play. [21] He lieth under the shady trees, In the covert of the reed, and fens. [22] The shady trees cover him with their shadow; The willows of the brook compass him about. [23] Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: He trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. [24] He taketh it with his eyes: His nose pierceth through snares.

Job 41:1-34 KJV

[1] Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? Or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? [2] Canst thou put an hook into his nose? Or bore his jaw through with a thorn? [3] Will he make many supplications unto thee? Will he speak soft words unto thee? [4] Will he make a covenant with thee? Wilt thou take him for a servant for ever? [5] Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens? [6] Shall the companions make a banquet of him? Shall they part him among the merchants? [7] Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? Or his head with fish spears? [8] Lay thine hand upon him, Remember the battle, do no more. [9] Behold, the hope of him is in vain: Shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him? [10] None is so fierce that dare stir him up: Who then is able to stand before me? [11] Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? Whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine. [12] I will not conceal his parts, Nor his power, nor his comely proportion. [13] Who can discover the face of his garment? Or who can come to him with his double bridle? [14] Who can open the doors of his face? His teeth are terrible round about. [15]  His scales are his pride, Shut up together as with a close seal. [16] One is so near to another, That no air can come between them. [17] They are joined one to another, They stick together, that they cannot be sundered. [18] By his neesings a light doth shine, And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. [19] Out of his mouth go burning lamps, And sparks of fire leap out. [20] Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, As out of a seething pot or caldron. [21] His breath kindleth coals, And a flame goeth out of his mouth. [22] In his neck remaineth strength, And sorrow is turned into joy before him. [23] The flakes of his flesh are joined together: They are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. [24] His heart is as firm as a stone; Yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone. [25] When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: By reason of breakings they purify themselves. [26] The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: The spear, the dart, nor the habergeon. [27] He esteemeth iron as straw, And brass as rotten wood. [28] The arrow cannot make him flee: Slingstones are turned with him into stubble. [29] Darts are counted as stubble: He laugheth at the shaking of a spear. [30] Sharp stones are under him: He spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire. [31] He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: He maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. [32] He maketh a path to shine after him; One would think the deep to be hoary. [33] Upon earth there is not his like, Who is made without fear. [34] He beholdeth all high things: He is a king over all the children of pride.
