The Audio Version of today’s note

Hebrews 7:1-28 KJV

[1] For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; [2] to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; [3] without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. [4] Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. [5] And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: [6] but he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. [7] And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. [8] And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth. [9] And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. [10] For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him. [11] If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? [12] For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. [13] For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. [14] For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. [15] And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, [16] who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. [17] For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchisedec. [18] For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. [19] For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. [20] And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest: [21] (for those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchisedec:) [22] By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. [23] And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: [24] but this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. [25] Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. [26] For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; [27] who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. [28] For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

Note for 20241123

Have you not noticed yet, that for so much that comes to us by the Spirit, even as much as Salvation itself; in the Old Testament there seems to be an example of? It is almost as if in the Old Testament the president was established, so that in Jesus Christ it could not be denied. We know that Abraham was prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac to GOD, then God stopped him and provided a replacement for the altar in a ram. Which opened up the Law of replacement, for one to die for the sin of another.

Here in Hebrews we read about the pedigree of Christ, and how the law permits, and more, how both the law and the prophets are fulfilled in Christ.

The standard of a High Priest outside the line of Aaron was established in that Abraham paid tithe to Melchisedek. Even in as much that Melchisedek was senior to Levi (the tribe which Aaron came from, and GOD elected for himself as an inheritance,) since Levi (in Abraham) paid the tribute of tithe to him. Yes, there is a lot that is explained here by reason, for the Jew it would be crucial for the president to be established in the law, because they received the law from GOD via Moses. But this is not just for the Jew, but also for the Gentile; even as a peace of mind, that Jesus Christ indeed is the Promised Messiah, prophesied of by the Prophets of The LORD. So can we know that not only was Jesus sanctified, but also was He fully qualified. This here then (for a more common speech) how Jesus Christ "tick all of the boxes," of being the Messiah.

Now we believe by our faith in Jesus Christ. Our faith establishes in us that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour, and the Holy Spirit bears witness of that in us. We know by the same Spirit of GOD, that Jesus Christ is the Son of GOD. However, it is good to know that there is a solid foundation for our faith and that Christ fully complied with both the law and the prophets, even fulfilling it. For us, it ties all together, but for those who refuse Christ Jesus, it leaves them without excuse or defense. In Christ alone are we justified. In Christ alone can we receive everlasting life, just as it is declared in John 3:16.

Friends, the Word of GOD is not always just for “a feel good moment.” There is much to establish and much to confirm, that what we believe with all that we are, indeed is entirely lawful, according to the Law of GOD.

This description of Christ being a High Priest in the order of Melchisedek is a much bigger "deal" than what we may think at first. You see, it establishes the rule that Christ can stand as our High Priest forever at the throne of GOD. It establishes not only our salvation, but also our deliverance and redemption. It is legal, by president, in the Court of Heaven.

Not all of us can make sense of these higher things. I know. But, go and be still before the Lord and consider this. You will be surprised how much comfort it brings, the moment you realize, that is why our Father in Heaven sent His Only Begotten Son as He did. Because of His love for us, GOD made a way for us, where there was no way. The Law He gave to Moses, established what sin was; and by it, man was condemned to death. So, in place of the blood of animals which served only temporarily, Christ came out of the House of the eternal GOD and made atonement for eternity for us who believe in Him. That we may have eternal life. Our Salvation is thus wholly of what Christ did upon the cross, else we would have to bring daily sacrifices as it was the practice in the temple and under the Law that came via Moses.

I hope this helps you. I hope it brings you comfort and that you may find peace within, because of what Christ has done for you.

Shalom.

Proverbs 18:10 KJV

[10] The name of the LORD is a strong tower: The righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Galatians 3:19-22 KJV

[19] Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. [20] Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. [21] Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. [22] But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
