2 Timothy 1:1-18 KJV

[1] Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, [2] To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.  [3] I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; [4] greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; [5] when I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. [6] Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. [7] For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. [8] Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; [9] who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, [10] but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: [11] whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. [12] For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. [13] Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. [14] That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us. [15] This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes. [16] The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: [17] but, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. [18] The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

Note for 2024/08/08

I must admit, to be true, that sometimes I am a little frustrated at the pace we are reading through the Bible. But, I am soon reminded that the pace should be as such, that all that wish to take the journey with us must be able to follow along. The goal at first was to read through the Bible again, in a "as it happened" kind of way. But, also to share that journey with you. It has indeed become more than that since, for the LORD has increased our learning greatly and the Revelations we have found in the Word of GOD is precious beyond any price that can be paid.

Reading here in this letter to Timothy, I am somewhat reminded of the nature in which King Solomon wrote in Proverbs to his son. Paul, not the biological father of Timothy, but a father to him in the faith in Jesus Christ. Solomon writes to Rehoboam to part wisdom unto him that he would be a just ruler over the people, just as he received in a way from David, his father, in the Psalms of David. Now of course, both the Psalms and Proverbs have become much more than that, leading believers both in the Jewish and Christian faith in righteousness. But Paul, writes to Timothy about Christ's principles, thus is this relationship more than just a father and a son but also of a brothership, a unity in Christ, with The Most High GOD as our Father in Heaven, in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in us. So, while there is that which was specifically meant for Timothy, the heart of a Spiritual Father is revealed to us in these writings. It gives us insight into how we may serve one another, remembering each other in our daily prayers in intercession.

Yes, both the writings of King Solomon and Paul, even the many like them as we find the Songs of King David, then examples for us to follow.

The question then in contemplation on the Word of GOD, is whether we meet that mark? For as I write here, it is my hope that my own children would also learn from what the Lord has imparted to me. So I can write, "my son," or, "my daughter," but in the knowledge of God's Word, I know that it can be more than just a letter to my children. The testimony for Christ that resides in me, is for the edification of all that stands in the faith of Jesus Christ our Lord. What is the worth of a life, if we cannot pass on what we have learned? Is life then not to learn of GOD, and to walk out the paces of this journey back to Him? For man stands in a fallen state, that comes in the birth in the flesh; but, by the rebirth of the Spirit in Christ, we are invited back to God to our immortal state. In Christ the work of the Devil is undone, our sin is forgiven, and we can walk by the guidance of the Spirit of GOD. That is the Good News, that we do not have to perish, but that Christ has paid the price for us, so we may return to the purpose GOD had for mankind when He created us. The good news of the Gospel of Christ, is as much as shouting to a child that is walking into danger, to turn back and come back into the safety that GOD has set aside for all His children. It is a gift, in love, by the Merciful Kindness we read of in the Word of GOD. In refusal, we are like that rebellious teenager, and as we mature here, we become like that proud family member that refuses his own family. That is to put things plainly. But, there is also this: in God's House, it means we follow His rules. Understand?

Friends, there are indeed deeper and more complex matters of our faith in God our Father and His Son Jesus Christ, but in the end, it is really about which family we choose to belong to. To choose the ways of this world is like a son that is closer with his in-laws than with his own family. Thus, the Lord explains the return of the prodigal son as cause for feasting, because he that was lost is found. The same is true for each of us, as we are born out of the line of Adam, whom GOD made with His own hands, we are descendants, and the focus of GOD'S redemption plan. Salvation is of GOD, thus He sent His only Begotten Son, to pay the price of redemption of all GOD'S children. Refusal is like rebellion, a statement saying, "I am not ready to come home yet."

As we have seen for ourselves in this life, sometimes a child walks out too far, refusing to return, and before that child comes to repentance, his life runs out. It is my hope that you will hear the Father's call today. It is my hope that you will consider the way His heart cries out to all across the many generations of Adam, for His sons and daughters to come back home. Which of you will give up on your child? Much more, our Father in Heaven. So, when you find yourself in trouble, know this: you are not homeless, just a little too stubborn to know what is good for you. Our Father in Heaven, will receive you back with feasting and forgive all your sin. He has already paid the price, it is just a matter of accepting and turning back, homeward bound.

Jeremiah 7:1-34 KJV

[1] The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, [2] Stand in the gate of the LORD's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD. [17] Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for cunning women, that they may come: [18] and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters. [19] For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out. [20] Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation. [21] For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets. [22] Speak, Thus saith the LORD, Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman, and none shall gather them. [23] Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: [24] but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. [25] Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised; [26] Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.
