Hebrews 6-7 KJV

Hebrews 6:1-20 KJV

[1] Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, [2] of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. [3] And this will we do, if God permit. [4] For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, [5] and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, [6] if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. [7] For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: [8] but that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. [9] But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. [10] For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. [11] And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: [12] that ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. [13] For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, [14] saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. [15] And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. [16] For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. [17] Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: [18] that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: [19] which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; [20] whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews 7:1-28 KJV

[1] For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; [2] to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; [3] without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. [4] Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. [5] And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: [6] but he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. [7] And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. [8] And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth. [9] And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. [10] For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him. [11] If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? [12] For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. [13] For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. [14] For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. [15] And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, [16] who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. [17] For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchisedec. [18] For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. [19] For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. [20] And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest: [21] (for those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchisedec:) [22] By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. [23] And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: [24] but this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. [25] Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. [26] For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; [27] who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. [28] For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

Note for 2024/08/01

I know, for some it might seem an impossible thing, but there are those that can testify with me, that it is the Lord that guides us in reading from His Word as we do. Today, I was nudged on to Chapter 7, after 6; and only then could I understand the reason. For the last verse in 6 is open ended. Chapter 7, then, extending a description of the order of the Priesthood in which Christ Jesus stands.

We accept the High Priest in Jesus Christ, which endures forever, at the Right Hand of GOD; but since this was written for the Hebrews, you must know that it was about the LAW that came through Moses from GOD. See this as a form of confirmation by the LAW, and for the Hebrew it would be of great significance, to understand (as it may be) the Office and Authority of Christ our Lord. But, that does not mean it is just for the Hebrew and of no effect for the Gentile. As we read in Isaiah 65 and 66 in the supported text yesterday, the Gentile would be brought into the promise of GOD, by faith that stands in the like as the faith of Abraham, who is written of here in the text today.

It is important to distinguish that this is of the meat spoken of earlier in Hebrews, which is more than the milk, that laid the foundation of our faith as the text today opens up with. So, while extremely necessary, I do understand that the complexity of this may require more attention to drive it home and thus the extended text. As for the Gentiles that do not have the same familiarity with the Law and practice of the Hebrew, we stand in a faith that is not based on having seen. But, when standing in a ministry where we might have to minister unto someone of the Jewish faith, we cannot neglect the knowledge we learn here. Christ is not just our Savior, but He is The Savior; The Only One. Validated by the scriptures, fulfilling the Law and prophecies given to the Hebrew since the beginning of time. As much, we as Gentiles are the wild olive tree, grafted into the cultivated olive tree, who is the nation of GOD that came from the same Abraham that is the father of all of Israel. This is established by the teaching of Paul, to name just one, confirmed by the prophets, as we read in Isaiah yesterday.

Now, Christ that stands for us at the Right Hand of GOD for intercession, so stands legally too, by the Order of His Priesthood, which confirms by the Law and the prophets that He indeed has the authority to make atonement for mankind. Yes it is legalistic, and yes, it is complex; but all in the service of the Truth, that both the Gentile and the Jew can have a full assurance of the Salvation we have in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is sure in faith and legal by the Law that GOD gave to Israel in Moses. So is a foundation set for the Salvation we have in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This does however leave a question in me. If we are grafted into Israel through Christ, as the Bride of Christ; how can we go against that which we have been grafted into, in Christ, that Himself was from the tribe of Judah. If then joined by marriage, are we then not joint to Judah and GOD who is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ? You see? So have we legally become partakers and co-heirs with Judah, in Jesus Christ. Not replacing Israel in the sight of GOD, but added too. By the heritage of Christ through Mary, joint to Judah who is a tribe of Israel; but, by the heritage of the Holy Spirit, by which Christ was conceived, and whom we have received by the outpouring of GOD, in Jesus Christ, then we are also joined to the Family of GOD. Now Israel's descendents is part of Israel by their own heritage by the flesh, but how then will they become part of the family of GOD, if not joint to the Son of GOD, which is Christ? Who then can go to the Throne of GOD and call out, Abba-Father? All in Christ can, but none without Christ, for He is the Only Begotten Son of GOD.

Is this complex? Technically, yes. But, having learned this, what is the response of the Spirit that indwells with you? We are One with Christ in Spirit, for by the Holy Spirit are we joint to Christ in marriage. Then the two have become one. Do you understand yet? The Wedding feast is still coming, but the betrothed is promised already. We even took the Name of Christ in our belief, being called Christians.

Friends, know how you are joint. For we are called, as a form of proposal, accepted when we say yes to Jesus Christ. Then we must leave our home, which is this world, to go be with our Groom, joint to the Family of GOD and co-heirs with Christ as the Promised King of kings and the Messiah. Our High Priest, able to make atonement for us, who legally could take our debts upon Him. While complex, in the complexity the betrothal even more beautiful than what I understood at first. It is perfect.

I know it is a lot, but aren't you filled with hope now? More... For it is not just mere hope, but a promise of assurance that our Lord Jesus Christ is wholly able to save us. May this build your assurance in the Lord Jesus Christ, may it establish you in the knowledge that we are more in Christ than what we were in this world before our acceptance of His invitation (proposal in marriage.)

There is more, always more, but this should do for this day.

Shalom

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 KJV

[24] Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. [25] And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
