‭1 Timothy 5:1-25 KJV‬

[1] Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; [2] the elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity. [3] Honour widows that are widows indeed. [4] But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. [5] Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. [6] But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. [7] And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. [8] But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. [9] Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man, [10] well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. [11] But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; [12] having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. [13] And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. [14] I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. [15] For some are already turned aside after Satan. [16] If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed. [17] Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. [18] For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. [19] Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. [20] Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. [21] I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. [22] Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure. [23] Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. [24] Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. [25] Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

Note for 2024/07/18

Friends, consider what you just read. Let it ferment in you, let it turn in your mind, and measure your actions against it. What are we responsible for, how do we measure up where it is important?

Shall we then consider general society in these matters too? Surely, the young can work and take care of themselves, but what if there is no work? Then, surely they can plant and harvest a little for themselves, but what if they don't have land? Family should surely care for one another and don't we have friends? Oh! Look carefully, investigate the matter and soon you will find how deep in need many are. Greed has made it hard for the unfortunate, complaint on the lips of many. And in greed does anyone ever have enough? When does one reach the point of giving rather than having to receive?

I estimate that most that will read here, especially in third world countries, will relate to this. Parents, struggling to provide basic needs for their children, what still of the stranger on the street? But, what is a need, for somehow, somewhere along the timeline of mankind, want has become a basic need for many. Can you see around you, how desperate the world has become? May I ask, would you know if someone in church is truly in desperate need of the basics?

Why must everything today count for personal gain? Don't you know that while some showcase their fancy cars and beautiful homes, many are in want of bread? Do you remember the sermon of Jesus Christ on the mount, when His disciples came to him and asked Him to send the people that they may go and buy some food for themselves? Yes, He said, feed you them. Then, when they found they had just a little, He prayed and thanked GOD for it, and distributed the little to all, and there was left over. He also said that we would do greater works than He, is that still true in the church today? What is “a good work,” then? Read here about the washing of the feet of the saints. So, I ask you, how far have we degraded from where the church began? Some who give, should really be on the receiving end; and then, some receiving, where are their labor for the Lord? By their fruit shall you know them. The hearts of many have waxed cold, loving their own lives until the bitter end. Where then is the good work? I remind you of Matthew 25:31-46 again. What then have we done for the Lord? What have we not done, that we should? And yet, it is written that The Lord loves the cheerful giver. Is it really just about a tithe?

So, in light of today's word; do you think it wise that each church congregation establish community vegetable gardens where they can? Instead of Roses, why not plant wheat and corn? Even just a little may bring some relief to the most needy. How will needs be met, by all just sitting on a bench? Receiving the pearls of wisdom from GOD'S Word, without effect, for it serves only the one who hears it? Love your neighbor as yourself... Do you feed and clothe yourself? But, instead of help, those that struggle are only gossiped about as lazy.

Paul says here that the elders must be considered fathers and mothers, and the young as brothers and sisters, but I ask you, where then are the parents of the lost children? Who will teach the children in the right way? Is it love that calls another lazy without investigation? If there is no work for the young to do to receive his wage, how then will he eat? Will you send him out into the world to godless men unprepared? I tell you, that there are many children today with parents, I would still consider orphans. For the children have been divorced by parents, without care to prepare them for a Godly life. What about skill transfer?

Friends, there is much wrong with the world today. And it troubles me that the same can be seen within the church. If all our luxuries fail at once, who will know how to plant and rebuild? Who still knows how bread is made and where flour comes from? Where will they plant if there is no field to plant it in? Where will the meat come from, when the stores are without meat?

Today, I have shown you a shortfall in our preparation for times that may be more difficult than now. Did you hear? Be prepared then, ensure that your children know how to provide for themselves from the land. Then, the rain that GOD sends will not just water our flower gardens, but it will provide for food again. The message today is, do what you can. Meet each other in need. That is love. We should not ignore each other as the world does. Bring care back into the home.

Shalom

‭Luke 6:38 KJV‬

[38] give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
