Note for 2024/05/02 - ‭Acts 19:13-41 KJV - For Profit

The world is “Employing Chaos for Profit Business”

‭Acts 19:13-41 KJV‬

[13] Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. [14] And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. [15] And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? [16] And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. [17] And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. [18] And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. [19] Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. [20] So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed. [21] After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. [22] So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.  [23] And the same time there arose no small stir about that way. [24] For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen; [25] whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth. [26] Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands: [27] so that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth. [28] And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. [29] And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre. [30] And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not. [31] And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre. [32] Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together. [33] And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people. [34] But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. [35] And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter? [36] Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly. [37] For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess. [38] Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another. [39] But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly. [40] For we are in danger to be called in question for this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse. [41] And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.

Note for 2024/05/02

In reading this morning:

Acts 18:19-28 and all of 19 (As this is the sequence of our reading,) but here is the highlighted scripture, Act 19:13-41.

I know for some of you, this might be a lot to read in one sitting, and there is much to consider here, but this is the highlight today in the context thereof.

While Paul could lay hands on those baptized and they would be filled with the Holy Spirit, these others could not convince the evil spirit to vacate the body of the possessed by calling on the Name of Jesus. They were injured and shamed. That famous line of the evil spirit's answer is well known, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?"

Friends, I want you to consider something here. While, by what Paul has done, faith increased and people even burn their books on crafts, what motivates the riot we read of here? If you think it is Diana, you would be wrong. No, the worship of Diana was used as a means to an end. What started this confusion in the city were men concerned about their money, as people converted to Jesus Christ, their idols of Diana would no longer sell.

Do you see the effect of the Holy Spirit and then in opposition, the effect of greed? This is an old thing that always causes uproar. It is not about Diana even, but the faith in Diana was used to ensure the chaos, but this came from Demetrius, the silversmith.

Now, what is the spirit behind all this, for Paul taught us that we do not struggle against the flesh? And if it is not of GOD, then it is against GOD. How does this translate to our time today? What is the chaos-agent in our environment? In other words, what stirs up crowds of people to stand in rebellion? Did you notice how they were called to calm and were told they had no true cause for the chaos? Did you read how they were basically told that there is a legal way to deal with this matter, but now because of how they acted, they stand in error of this upheaval?

Today we know, these riots placed on show are for the purpose of the cameras. It is to show the displeasure for a situation. What is the money changers role in this? Whose pockets are affected by the thing they stand in protest for?

You know, when this worldwide protest burst out into every capital city of the world, I could not help to think: who arranged this? Who printed the flags? How did this come into effect so quickly and so organized? Didn't you? And now I will go one step further. Who can afford the time to do these things? No my friends, someone is bankrolling this chaos we see. And that is your chaos agent, probably standing in the service of some dark overlord. That is the nature of these things.

Is it strange for you to see violence as another spirit being manifested?

These rioters use a cause to gather people together, and some are outright paid to instigate. It may seem like a worthy cause, but the purpose is the revolt. Riots in the street affected stock markets too, did you not know that? And who invests? Do they go long or do they short the stocks? Even war can be a profitable business. But who is it then that lands up in the stocks, imprisoned for their disruptive behavior, while the money changers sit back and smoke cigars and sip at expensive drinks? Smiling for the profits they made?

Do not join yourself to such rebellion, you will pay the price. Do not only see the physical, but consider the spirits that are moving all. Then you will see what is really going on.

‭Colossians 4:1-6 KJV‬

[1] Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. [2] Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; [3] withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: [4] that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. [5] Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. [6] Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

‭Psalm 106:1-48 KJV‬

[1] Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: For his mercy endureth for ever. [2] Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? Who can shew forth all his praise? [3] Blessed are they that keep judgment, And he that doeth righteousness at all times. [4] Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation; [5] That I may see the good of thy chosen, That I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance. [6] We have sinned with our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly. [7] Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; They remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; But provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea. [8] Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, That he might make his mighty power to be known. [9] He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: So he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness. [10] And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. [11] And the waters covered their enemies: There was not one of them left. [12] Then believed they his words; They sang his praise. [13] They soon forgat his works; They waited not for his counsel: [14] But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tempted God in the desert. [15] And he gave them their request; But sent leanness into their soul. [16] They envied Moses also in the camp, And Aaron the saint of the LORD. [17] The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And covered the company of Abiram. [18] And a fire was kindled in their company; The flame burned up the wicked. [19] They made a calf in Horeb, And worshipped the molten image. [20] Thus they changed their glory Into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass. [21] They forgat God their saviour, Which had done great things in Egypt; [22] Wondrous works in the land of Ham, And terrible things by the Red sea. [23] Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. [24] Yea, they despised the pleasant land, They believed not his word: [25] But murmured in their tents, And hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD. [26] Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, To overthrow them in the wilderness: [27] To overthrow their seed also among the nations, And to scatter them in the lands. [28] They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, And ate the sacrifices of the dead. [29] Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: And the plague brake in upon them. [30] Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: And so the plague was stayed. [31] And that was counted unto him for righteousness Unto all generations for evermore. [32] They angered him also at the waters of strife, So that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: [33] Because they provoked his spirit, So that he spake unadvisedly with his lips. [34] They did not destroy the nations, Concerning whom the LORD commanded them: [35] But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. [36] And they served their idols: Which were a snare unto them. [37] Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, [38] And shed innocent blood, Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, Whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: And the land was polluted with blood. [39] Thus were they defiled with their own works, And went a whoring with their own inventions. [40] Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, Insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance. [41] And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; And they that hated them ruled over them. [42] Their enemies also oppressed them, And they were brought into subjection under their hand. [43] Many times did he deliver them; But they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity. [44] Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, When he heard their cry: [45] And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies. [46] He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives. [47] Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, To give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise. [48] Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: And let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.
