Note for 20250915 - Isa 40v8 - Withering
Daily Devotional
Note for 20250915 - Isa 40:8 - Withering
1. Opening
There are a few ways in which you can partake in the Daily Devotional:
We are to receive the Word of GOD by the Spirit, so I strongly urge you to pray before you receive the Devotional. Let Christ take the lead in your Spiritual Development.
Introduction
I looked at the calendar, it says we are in Spring (Southern Hemisphere) and yet, when I look out into this world, it is withering. The grass, as chaff, ready to be consumed by fire, while the Word is doing some kind of pre-burning, to keep us safe from raging flames. The grass is dry, and yet some recklessly play with fire, thinking that they can control the spread of it, not knowing that the tempest may visit them at any time. We are like grass, here today and gone tomorrow, but in the Word, we may endure forever.
2. Scripture Text
Isaiah 40:8 KJV
[8] The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

3. Devotional Reflection
Isaiah 64:6 KJV
[6] But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

All of us know those times where things come against us like waves of the oceans in the ebb and flow against the coastline rocks. At times, those waves come at us so high that we think we might be washed out, or dragged into the deep abyss. Truly, it is as Christ said, that every day brings its own trouble, and some days it feels like the assault may never end. By the Spirit, we test these things, to see if it is of GOD and whether the self is in need of cleansing. Isaiah coins it so precisely here in verse 6 of Isaiah 64, and we see that fading away around us all the time.
I had such a weekend, friends; and I thank GOD for our Saviour, Jesus Christ, without Whom I would not be able to endure. It was one thing on the next, without the previous thing disappearing, the one instance was played upon the next as layers of molten rock. And though the LORD guided me that I will not be using all of Isaiah 64 this morning, permit me to give you a little from it, so you can see Isaiah knew this too.
Isaiah 64:9-12 KJV
[9] Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people. [10] Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. [11] Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste. [12] Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O LORD? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?

I have no doubt in me, we are living in the last days of this age. And, while I am sure that there were those that felt the same way during the previous World Wars; this time it does seem to be building up to this great assault against all that is good of GOD in this world. As I look around me, I see this withering grass, how the Lord is preparing many to be collected and our time is running out. As the days of Noah, when the rain came and they did not perceive their judgment had come. I have no doubt that GOD will collect many at this time, even to the point that it will be as it is written, the living will envy the dead. For some it may be like that already, while for others it may seem just another day as all those that came and went before. "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth:" and all I have to give, is the Word of GOD.
Do you stand in a field that withers away in Spring as if Winter is next? Is your world being consumed around you, as if some unseen flame is licking at everything? Or, is the decay of this world meeting you unnoticed; is it just another day, thinking, "My Lord delays His return?"
There are many that have visited the emergency rooms in the past few days that may have some alarm to announce to others. Is it just another day, or is the tide moving in, the sea level rising against the dust? Are you holding onto the Word of Life, or are you being washed away, little by little, fading like the flowers in the field our Verse of the Day speaks of?
4. Verse of the Day

Isaiah 40:8 KJV

5. Closing Paragraph
Our Lord does not delay His coming, He will show up right on time, even in an hour we think it not, just as He said. For some of us, it will be at those emergency rooms, for others, it will be like a thief in the night, while we were sleeping. The question is, do you hold on to the Word of GOD, even the Word of Truth and Life?
Selah, Shalom.
