Luke 5:27-39 KJV

[27] And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. [28] And he left all, rose up, and followed him. [29] And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them. [30] But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? [31] And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. [32] I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. [33] And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink? [34] And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? [35] But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. [36] And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old. [37] And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. [38] But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. [39] No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

Note for 20250407

By now, friends, I hope that you are aware that these notes are also about leading a reading through the Word of GOD, more specifically, the New Testament at this time. Right now, I am not certain that we have enough time to make it through both the Old and the New. Have you noticed, while commenting here on the New Testament, my reading through the Bible is in the Old Testament at this time, more specifically, in 1 Samuel at this time, with the accounts of David. You don't need my comments or notes, the Holy Ghost can give you all. In fact, I should just be a confirmation of what you have learned already.

In our reading here in Luke 5 this morning, what may your note be to me? Where are you in this process; are you called, chosen or sent? Here, Levi is called and he follows, immediately, just as it was with Simon, John and James. If called, to what? If chosen, for what? Yes, and if sent; to whom, what and where? Are you called to your salvation alone? A candle that is lit to light itself burns out soon. A little salt upon the wick, and it will last a little longer, to light the whole room.

Here in our reading this morning are a few lessons, much to know and much to share. And still, the most important thing that I have to give you, is for you to read and know in yourself, for a time when those like me might be silenced. Who will teach you then, who will teach others? It is crucial that you have oil for your lamp, and not to just stand in the light that another cast. Best of all, to stand in the Light of Christ who is forever. With these notes I have put out a call, don't you know it by now? A call to the Word of GOD. Like Levi here prepared a feast, so do I, bringing the Bread of Life. I am not that Bread, Jesus Christ is. You do not need me, you need Him. I am but the servant sent to invite you to the feast, even the marriage supper of the Lamb of GOD. At this table you will find many who once were publicans and sinners, just like me. For the new wine, you must become new, even be born anew. Jip, just like me, you must first be washed clean. What is filthy must be left behind, to partake in what is offered. If you feel that you are not worthy, that your sin is too great, then Christ answers you today in this scripture, he came for those that are not well, not for the healthy.

Yes, this scripture is about the calling of Levi, but note how that was covered in the first 2 verses of what we've read. What is there in the rest leading to the end of this chapter? Are there Pharisees and Scribes bringing accusations again? People are too sinful, they are unclean. Why are they feasting while other disciples fast? The answers to that were given by Christ too. But, maybe the most significant today, is the matter of the old and new wine. You see, the Pharisees and scribes were so full of the old wine, that they could not receive what was new. And what was new, at that time, was Salvation of the Soul of mankind by Jesus Christ, an invitation to the marriage supper of the Lamb, of which the Prophets of GOD did testify. Full of the old they had no room for that which was promised. So, only empty vessels could be used, in the likes of sinful people. And as we know by now, they are still holding onto the old unto this day, many poured out and empty by now. What we now await, is for them to call out to the One who comes in the Name of the LORD, GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. When that day comes, even the day of our Lord, then they too shall come in to feast with us and Him. But, how many years has it been? So I show you the mercy of GOD, for those that He loves.

So, for now, we must endure all that we will still encounter, shine our lights so others can see, until all who the LORD loves have come in. So are many called, and according to Jesus Christ, few chosen. We are to shine our lights brightly, a city of refuge on the hill, so all who are in the valley can see the salvation of the LORD. So please, do not just stand in another's light, but let your light shine too.

Now, if time permits you, later if not now; read the scripture provided again. Receive what is new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ.

Selah, Shalom

Verse of The Day

From the YouVersion Bible App (Expanded from verse 12)

Acts 4:8-18 KJV

[8] Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, [9] if we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; [10] be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. [11] This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. [12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. [13] Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. [14] And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. [15] But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, [16] saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. [17] But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. [18] And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

1 Samuel 22:1-2 KJV

[1] David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him. [2] And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.
