Luke 4:30-44 KJV
[30] But he passing through the midst of them went his way, [31] and came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days. [32] And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. [33] And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, [34] saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God. [35] And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not. [36] And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. [37] And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about. [38] And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. [39] And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them. [40] Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. [41] And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ. [42] And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. [43] And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. [44] And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.

Note for 20250404
Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. This was Simon's response realising the wonder of Jesus Christ. As I process this within me, you know, I wonder if now, some government entity wouldn't have grabbed Jesus from the street and tested Him in some secret lab. Study His abilities, whether they could use it for warfare. And, of course the next natural place our head goes is that GOD would not permit that, or even that the Angels of Heaven would come against such attempts, as the "private security" of the Lord. And yet, a few men, lightly armed by today's standards, took Jesus from the garden and bound Him. I think about it often as I read through the Word of GOD, what it may have been like, if those events played out today. It seems like the world is far more wicked and unforgiving now, than then. And yet, we do not really know, for how is it to walk wherever you have to go?
Yes I know, this section of the scripture is about Simon and the sons of Zebedee are called as disciples, but surely you know that already, not? Just as you should know that Jesus later gives Simon the name "Peter" and more precisely "Kefah" which doesn't mean rock, but pebble. You might recognize already, that it is the mother of two of these that later makes a request of Jesus for each of her sons to sit either side of Christ upon His Throne.
Today, we look at Simon Peter, as he falls before the knees of Christ. We ask the question, am I like that? After the greatest catch of their fishing career, these three men leave all behind and follow Christ. That is like winning the Lotto, and then, giving the winning ticket to someone else, or dropping it to the floor. Can you see how some today would call themselves lucky, and go off to spend their winnings? Some would even write a book, "How I made the biggest catch of my life," and be interviewed by someone like Joe Rogan. No, it is quite clear to me that that would have played out much differently today. Today, someone would try to make a hit show of it, and be followed with cameras everywhere. Just like they record videos of disasters, instead of helping.
What would it take to call you to the ministry today? Have you ever thought about it? What if these words Christ spoke to these 3, He spoke to you today? For me that call came in the early hours of the morning, much like it happened for Samuel.
Here's the thing, isn't all called to follow Jesus Christ? Was the disciples not instructed to take the message to every creature on earth? Now, I can't call you, but I can tell you that Christ also said that many are called, but few are chosen. Would man hear the call of GOD in this busy world, as we are kept busy with every kind of entertainment known to man. Maybe that is why I was called at night, while I was sleeping.
Oh, if you want to see the state of man, you first have to separate yourselves from them. You have to stand back and watch how churches are closed, the buildings sold off and brought up by competitors of the faith. There are so many churches for sale it is almost embarrassing. My heart would scarcely bear it, if Jesus didn't say first that it would come, that many would fall away from the faith. And my question is this: who is left paying attention? The mere mention of donation is seen as begging, speaking on tithing is as blasphemy before the modern man. And as we see the world fall apart before our eyes, I wonder: who still runs to GOD? Who calls out to the Lord Jesus Christ at night, and if they do, is it only because they themselves are in trouble? Does GOD need your money? Or, are you called to service to the most High GOD? Is love a request or an instruction? And what then does the Word of GOD say love is? Who can say, they have nothing to do for Jesus Christ? Why are so many still sitting, fast asleep as the world is in full revolt? When you cook crayfish, you put it in the pot while it is alive, who knows that this world is boiling?
Ohnow, today, men would be gathering up the fish these three men left behind and sell it off with a markup of three or four hundred percent. They would throw in some clever marketing plan that this is the best fish you can ever eat, for it came by miracle. They would market it well, and do novel pop-up shops and blast the images all over social media. They will have selfies all over the Internet, even with some influences coming to profit fame from the event. No, my friends, the people of today would have been ignorant of Jesus Christ too, much more now than then.
Can you imagine the publicity that Jesus would have received? How much do you think the Pastors would have charged per seat, for you to be in attendance as Jesus spoke? Would there be t-shirts, caps and keyrings to help with the costs of running such a fortunate church? And of course, just like the Pharisees and scribes back then, you would have black smear campaigns against Jesus, with journalists following Him around to report the latest news. We say we would not have missed His first coming, and I tell you, you say that only in hindsight, you would have been more sceptical than those that met Christ then. Or don't we require full evidence and deep studies today before we will believe any good of anyone today? We are highly sceptical, aren't we?
So, the mere fact that these three men were prepared to leave all behind to follow Jesus Christ is not nothing, and they will be honoured for eternity because of it. Today, people will not even read their words, and far worse, curse with the Name of Christ, when they bump their toe.
Society is in trouble, friends. Don't invite me to your church functions if you entertain abominable acts in your congregations. I do not want to see a movie being compared to the salvation we have in Jesus Christ. Where is the sick being healed, the captive being freed, the prisons and hospitals being visited and the poor given what they need? Where are the righteous acts of the saints? Do not approach me with smiles and pleasantries while you beat your wife up at home, or slander her to all your friends. Don't you know we are in a "last call" season?
Right now, imagine yourself standing at those ships, fish overflowing; will you come when you are called? I have aches and pains, I am not young anymore, I have daily duties I receive no payment for. Not to my glory, but to God's, for it is Him who called me to my current duties. I was not instructed by a man, I am sent by GOD. So, forgive me if I am a little less tolerable of idle chit-chat, for the harvest is ready and workers are few. Let the dead bury the dead, you follow Christ.
Today I have spoken in a stern way, a way to which I was called. Why must I still watch members of the church sit and lick their wounds? Where is your faith? Get on with God's business, not your own. How will you answer those to whom you were sent? Get up... And walk! The way is clear within the Word of GOD and the Holy Spirit confirms. Maybe, indeed, the church suffers at this time in a lack of Spirit, not all, but many. Will you cast your net and become fishers of men?
Selah
Father, my GOD Almighty, blessed be Your Name. In the Name of Jesus Christ, I pray, wake your church. Still, not my will, but Thy will be done. For thine is the Kingdom the Power and the Strength.
Amen
