Opening Prayer - Hannah’s Prayer

1 Samuel 2:1-10 KJV

[1] And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, Mine horn is exalted in the LORD: My mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; Because I rejoice in thy salvation. [2]  There is none holy as the LORD: For there is none beside thee: Neither is there any rock like our God. [3] Talk no more so exceeding proudly; Let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: For the LORD is a God of knowledge, And by him actions are weighed. [4] The bows of the mighty men are broken, And they that stumbled are girded with strength. [5]  They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; And they that were hungry ceased: So that the barren hath born seven; And she that hath many children is waxed feeble. [6] The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: He bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. [7] The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: He bringeth low, and lifteth up. [8] He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, And lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, To set them among princes, And to make them inherit the throne of glory: For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, And he hath set the world upon them. [9] He will keep the feet of his saints, And the wicked shall be silent in darkness; For by strength shall no man prevail. [10] The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; Out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: The LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; And he shall give strength unto his king, And exalt the horn of his anointed.

Luke 4:1-13 KJV

[1] And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, [2] being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. [3] And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. [4] And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. [5] And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. [6] And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. [7] If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. [8] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. [9] And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: [10] for it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: [11] And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. [12] And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. [13] And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

Note for 20250401

The temptation of Jesus Christ by Satan in the desert. How did Jesus resist Satan? Yes, by the Word of GOD, with that which is written. How did Satan respond? He offered Jesus fame and fortune, power of what has been given to him. Once more Jesus responded by the Word of GOD, that which is written. How did Satan respond? He used what is written to tempt the Lord. How did Christ respond to him? Indeed, with what is written once more. And Satan left Him for a season.

You may wonder why I repeated what is written, you may wonder about the title of today's note. Believe it or not, so do I. I can only give you what I receive, and what I receive I give to you.

James 4:7 KJV

[7] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jas.4.7.KJV

It is written for us, by James, just as it is written of how Jesus resisted Satan, that we may know. No body is perfect, because it is written, but did you read it right? I did not write, nobody is perfect, I wrote, no body is perfect.

Romans 8:7-8 KJV

[7] Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. [8] So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

https://bible.com/bible/1/rom.8.7-8.KJV

In this morning's reading, Jesus became hungry. Could Jesus turn the stones into loaves of Bread, of course. The body should not rule over the soul of man. It is my belief, that is why we fast, to subject the flesh to rule. We don't have to be told that we struggle against our flesh, the desires by want and lust of it; for we are personally involved with that struggle. How did Jesus respond to His hunger? What did Paul write, can the flesh please GOD? By the Word that is written, so can we respond, for the Word of GOD has a higher authority than the flesh. No body is perfect, but the soul that walks after the Spirit can obtain perfection in Jesus Christ. Here is what James wrote here...

James 3:2 KJV

[2] For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jas.3.2.KJV

And Paul says this...

Colossians 3:14 KJV

[14] And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

https://bible.com/bible/1/col.3.14.KJV

But surely, the Authority on perfection comes from Jesus Christ.

Matthew 5:48 KJV

[48] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.5.48.KJV

One came to Jesus once, requesting what he should do to enter the Kingdom of GOD. After Jesus told him to maintain the law of Moses, he said that he has done so since he was young, and then Jesus answers him like this:

Matthew 19:21 KJV

[21] Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.19.21.KJV

Do not miss the last bit, "and come and follow me." Once more we look at the Book of James to see a deeper truth of what this looks like in practice by a believer...

James 1:25 KJV

[25] But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

https://bible.com/bible/1/jas.1.25.KJV

From what we have learned here, it is apparent that even within us the body and our soul can be at odds with one another. For we wish not to sin against GOD, and yet, the body wants those things that are not building up the soul of man, but luring it after the desires that break the law of GOD. It is the flesh that responds with survival instinct, to save one's hide. The soul that rules with Jesus Christ over the flesh, even as James writes, he who bridles the tongue, can obtain perfection. Yes, even that little member of the body, by which the spoken word can come. Who rules then over the tongue for GOD, have looked deep within. We resist the devil in us, and fasting is good practice.

Proverbs 18:21 KJV

[21] Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

https://bible.com/bible/1/pro.18.21.KJV

What comes from the tongue will be accepted by those that love what is being said. Now, there is much in this, because the tongue can produce many fruits, not all being good. Still is the proverb true, both in good and evil.

Proverbs 13:3 KJV

[3] He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: But he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

https://bible.com/bible/1/pro.13.3.KJV

Proverbs 17:27 KJV

[27] He that hath knowledge spareth his words: And a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

https://bible.com/bible/1/pro.17.27.KJV

Let us make an end of quotes for now then. By what is written in the Word of GOD, we can learn of all these things. What is profitable for the soul of mankind. But only by the Word of GOD, which is Jesus Christ, can we enter in. By the rebirth of man in the Spirit of GOD. The old man must be mortified, laid down with Christ in the grave, and the new must appear with Christ, resurrected.

Man, in essence, must fast from those carnal things that come naturally from the flesh, and that is standing in obedience to the Word of GOD, which brings the nature of the Spirit of GOD in us. It is an obedience to the Spirit of GOD, and a resisting of that which the flesh wants. That which is not gainful for others, that which oppresses others. Or, have we forgotten Matthew 25:40 again? Let's expand it today to have a fuller view:

Matthew 25:40, 45-46 KJV

[40] And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

[45] Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. [46] And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.25.40-46.KJV

So, on one hand we have the things of GOD by the Holy Spirit, and on the other side we have the things in the flesh, ruled by the prince of this world. With the tongue we speak life and death, so by the tongue we can repent, confess and worship GOD, or speak blasphemies. As the tongue goes, so shall the body follow.

I say it again, we resist the devil... In us. Of course, there is more, but this is a good place to start your walk, to subdue the flesh to the reign of Jesus Christ in us.

Selah, Shalom

Psalm 103:2-5 KJV

[2] Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits: [3] Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases; [4] Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; [5] Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; So that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
