Luke 2:25-40 KJV

[25] And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. [26] And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. [27] And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, [28] then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, [29] Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, According to thy word: [30] For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, [31] Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; [32] A light to lighten the Gentiles, And the glory of thy people Israel. [33] And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. [34] And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; [35] (yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. [36] And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; [37] and she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. [38] And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. [39] And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. [40] And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

Waiting

Here we have the account of Simeon and Anna. Did anything stand out to you about these two? Yes they were both devout, but it is specifically mentioned that the Holy Ghost was upon Simeon, which is how he knew to come to the temple at that moment. It is written here that he was waiting for the consolation of Israel. With Anna, the reference is a little more "between" the lines.

[25] And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

The Holy Ghost revealed to him that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. It is by the Holy Ghost that he came into the Temple. And what did he do once his eyes beheld the Lord? He prophesied. Yes, he spoke and testified. He was waiting on what was revealed to him by the Holy Ghost, and he was ready for the moment.

[32] A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

This is what is remarkable to me, and it may just be at what Joseph and Mary marveled at his sayings. "A light to lighten the Gentiles..." You see Simeon knew more than even the High Priest knew, more than the Pharisees and Scribes. You see, he did not just read it in a scroll, it was revealed to him by the Holy Ghost. Furthermore, Simeon did not miss the coming of the Messiah Yeshua, he held the babe in his hands. While the learned folk might have known scripture, they missed the coming of their salvation. In that moment, Simeon becomes ready to go and be with the LORD.

[36] And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

[37] And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

[38] And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

A prophetess, who likewise (the same as Simeon) gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke... So, similarly, and being a widow, a prophetess and having "waited" 84 years in the Temple of GOD after she became a widow, not just ready to testify, but testified to all who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Now, what is a prophet? Can you be a prophet of The LORD without the Holy Ghost? So is it that I said, with Anna it was a little more between the lines.

Of course, though this is not the only account of those filled with the Holy Ghost before Pentecost or before the crucifixion and ascension of Jesus Christ, much like we just recently read how Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, prophesied when his lips were opened; this is a testimony that even before the crucifixion, there was more than one at a time that the Holy Ghost was with. Now, what is the significance? You see, when King David was anointed, it is written that the Holy Ghost departed from King Saul, but it was not a sign that the Holy Ghost could only be with one at a time as many try to teach others. Even at that very same time, the Holy Ghost was upon Samuel himself as he anointed David.

What is then the set apart part from others of these two we looked at today? Both devout and just, a man and a woman that did Prophecy and testify of the Messiah, they waited on the LORD. Simeon to see the Lord's Christ and Anna 84 years in the Temple.

Now, the crucial lesson here today does not come from the scripture reading of today, not alone, but even more so from something that another that the Holy Ghost was upon. It comes from the words of King David, of whom the Messiah would come.

Psalm 27:12-14 KJV

[12] Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.

[13] I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

[14] Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Do you think Simeon and Anna practiced that which Davis wrote of here? Did they wait a day or a week, or their entire lives long? Did they give up on waiting? We must be careful to have a "fast food" approach to our faith in GOD. Simeon got to hold the Baby Jesus Christ in his hands, and knew it was the Lord, long before John the Baptist identified Him as the One to Come, who baptized with the Holy Ghost.

John 1:33 KJV

[33] And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

Who baptizes with the Holy Ghost? We may anoint someone, but it is by Christ that they receive from the Spirit of GOD. The sign at the baptism of Jesus Christ was firstly as a sign to John that Jesus is the one he waited for, but also unto us to believe upon, and wait on His return, just as it was prophesied. Jesus Himself said that He would come back, and so we wait upon His return, filled by the Holy Ghost.

Now, it is our turn to be devout. Now we wait in that devotion. To see that which has been revealed to us and in which we believe. It has been about two thousand years since Christ ascended into heaven. And still we wait, for we had a visitation, unseen maybe, but known by the outpouring of the Holy Ghost in us. Just like Simeon, we will Behold that which was revealed to us by the Holy Spirit of GOD in us. Confirmed by the written Word of GOD, written by those filled by the Same Spirit. The Holy Spirit testifies of Christ, and by our lips we testify by the Holy Spirit to others.

Revelation 12:11 KJV

[11] And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Psalm 27:13 KJV

[13] I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

I told you, the Word does not contradict itself, it is man's opinions that confuse us. We struggle not against flesh and blood. So, wait then on the LORD your GOD, for you will see those things that you waited upon as it was revealed to you by the Holy Spirit. Simeon held Jesus in his hands, and we wait upon the embrace with a welcome home, "good and faithful servant."

Psalm 27:14 KJV

[14] Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Psalm 46:10-11 KJV

[10] Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

[11] The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Selah, Shalom.

Verse of The Day

From the YouVersion Bible App (Expanded from verse 8)

1 Peter 4:7-11 KJV

[7] But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. [8] And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. [9] Use hospitality one to another without grudging. [10] As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. [11] If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
