Mark 14:26-72 KJV
[26] And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. [27] And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered. [28] But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee. [29] But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I. [30] And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. [31] But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all. [32] And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. [33] And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; [34] and saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. [35] And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. [36] And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. [37] And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? [38] Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. [39] And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. [40] And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him. [41] And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. [42] Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand. [43] And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. [44] And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely. [45] And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him. [46] And they laid their hands on him, and took him. [47] And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. [48] And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me? [49] I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled. [50] And they all forsook him, and fled. [51] And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: [52] and he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked. [53] And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. [54] And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire. [55] And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none. [56] For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together. [57] And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying, [58] We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. [59] But neither so did their witness agree together. [60] And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? [61] But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? [62] And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. [63] Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses? [64] Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death. [65] And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands. [66] And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest: [67] and when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth. [68] But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. [69] And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. [70] And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilæan, and thy speech agreeth thereto. [71] But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak. [72] And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

Note for 20250202
Good Weather Friends
I know, even I find this heading somewhat strange, but it is the heading that I received to write.
To think, just before this scripture we read today, they were sitting down at the last supper. Now here, Jesus finds Himself on trial. From the garden to trial and tribulation. Mankind was in the Garden of GOD in Eden at the beginning, but our trials and tribulations came because we sinned and fell away, but Jesus stood innocent before these men. Before that Jesus was taken captive, betrayed by a kiss from Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve; they sat together at the passover meal. As the Shepherd was taken, the sheep scattered. One, fleeing away naked, leaving his linen garment behind. But, Peter followed a little behind them as they led Jesus to his trial at the House of the High Priest, betraying Jesus just as Jesus said he would.
You have read this scripture, and many of you can recall in this moment, the other accounts you have read before of this moment in the Life of Jesus Christ here on earth. We know that John was known by the High Priest and that he arranged for Peter to come into the courtyard. We know it was Peter that drew his sword and cut off the ear of the high priest's servant, even, how that servant asked Peter, "did I not see you in the garden?" And our reading ends where Peter weeps, when he remembers what Jesus said to him that he would betray Him.
Now, much of this for us today is of the historical account leading up to the Crucifixion of The Son of GOD. What is the soul's response to that? They took Him by night, betrayed by a kiss and His disciples fled for the sake of their own lives. In the account of John we remember that Christ appealed to those taking Him captive to let those with Him go. We remember how even the Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus before to try and catch Him out in words. Why take Him captive like this, at night, in secret? Now, of course, in the daytime, Jesus was surrounded by those who wanted to be healed and delivered from unclean spirits, where He taught those that came to Him about the Kingdom of GOD. You can say, the way they took Him, was the cowardly way. But, of course, things of darkness are done in darkness, in the secrecy of the night. So they showed their hand. So they show their way. By their fruit shall you know them.
You know, we often stand in somewhat of the same situation. I know, you might think it a stretch of comparison, and of course we are not on our way to the cross. But, think of ridicule or when we have something of value on the scale, when those that we find ourselves with speak against our faith. Have you denied Jesus Christ like Peter did? Have you run away from situations, in fear for your life or even just for the sake of shame in this world we are living in? How about when you are expected to do something that is against the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ? How does the book read, when we look at profits and losses? When we stand between those that we wish to be a part of, or those who we can gain profit from in business; do we forsake the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Do we love our lives unto death and deny Christ when our survival is threatened? Then we have become Good Weather Friends. Then we come to Christ for our own profit too, for asking for forgiveness, even when we are reluctant to repent. It is always somebody else's fault, isn't it, we refuse to see when we stand in the wrong? We pray for our own causes to the Lord. This should not be. Then, we are questionably on the Right Way. Have we then become like the young rich man, who upheld the law of Moses since he was young, but are grieved when we are told to sell all that we have and give to the poor, to pick up our cross and follow Jesus Christ? It is a thing with mankind, we shelter that which we attach value to, when will our faith become the chief of that? Man stands in lip service only. We crack under pressure and right now the pressure is on, all around the world. So are families torn apart, church congregations parted asunder. You see, because man is into things for what he can profit from it in our carnal ways. We walk away when we are displeased, offended or in danger. It is the cowardly way. Even the disciples of Jesus Christ were not immune to that, Peter drawing the sword and the others running away. They came to fetch Jesus Christ at night in the garden by an armed group, when He stood in peace amongst them, teaching them of the Kingdom of GOD by day.
Do you still think it is a stretch for the title of today? What about our withdrawal from friends, when shame comes upon them? Have you not seen it, has it not happened to you? Have you not been let alone in your trying times? But, do you know Who remained, and gave you strength to endure through all you have been? That's right, He that they abandoned here. Look, you are yet alive, breathing; you have not reached the end of your life yet. Even in the still of night, when dark times are all around you, Jesus Christ is near, by the Holy Spirit poured out in you.
Mankind is good weather friends, but Jesus is an all weather Friend. When you are in trouble, even at the Throne of GOD, He advocates for you. He paid with His Blood for you, so you would not die, but that you may have eternal life. But, to be able to say that, Jesus had to suffer all upon the earth that He did. He had to go to the cross and die upon it, be laid down in a tomb, to resurrect from it. He had to ascend to Heaven, where He can stand at the Throne of GOD, for those that believe in Him.
Selah, Shalom

Verse of The Day
From the YouVersion Bible App for 20250204 (Expanded from verse 9)
1 Peter 3:8-12 KJV
[8] Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: [9] not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. [10] For He that will love life, And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips that they speak no guile: [11] Let him eschew evil, and do good; Let him seek peace, and ensue it. [12] For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, And his ears are open unto their prayers: But the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
