Mark 12:28-44 KJV

[28] And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? [29] And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is , Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: [30] and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. [31] And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. [32] And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: [33] and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. [34] And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question. [35] And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? [36] For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. [37]  David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly. [38] And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, [39] and the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: [40] which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation. [41] And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. [42] And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. [43] And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: [44] for all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Note for 20250129

One man of a group is not the entire group. For, while one might answer discreetly, the rest might very well still be standing in hypocrisy, speaking things they do not follow themselves, but loving the honor that it brings. One group of people that is known by a certain way does not represent the only ones that do that thing, nor does it mean that they agree on all matters at the heart of it. People flock together by similarities, a common practice, a common view, and as we have seen, a common love for something or someone. Just look at those who stood together to vote for President Trump. All are not the same, but that they had in common.

Discretion is a great thing to learn from early on. This scribe questioning Jesus here regarding the greatest law seems to have stood out as a wise man among those he was around. So too, do we find many that truly believe in Jesus Christ, even though they may be part of a group we have significant differences with. What then about loving our neighbour as ourselves? Do you remember the parable of the Good Samaritan? Just because someone is of your own people doesn't mean that he loves and cares for you, a stranger might just treat you better than those that know you. Are we neighbours by the Spirit or by the flesh, for what have we in common with the wicked? And yet, might there be a closer friend, in the Spirit, in the camp of those who are brought against our fellow citizens. In treason then, is it of the flesh or of the Spirit, when nations claiming to worship Jesus Christ come against each other on the battlefield? What then of, thou shalt not kill and thou shalt nor covet what is thy neighbour's. Is both not covered by love thy neighbour as thyself?

What is it to love the Lord your GOD with all your heart, mind, soul and strength? Do you consider this widow at the end of the reading today to love the LORD? For she gave all that she had, even that which she had for bread. Who should be first in your heart and mind? And what then of Matthew 25:40; that what we do unto the least of us, we have done to Christ? Jesus Christ died on that cross for all mankind, that they of Adam might be saved.

So, of those that came against Jesus in His time here on earth, we see this one among the group to whom Jesus says, he is not far from the Kingdom of GOD.

In our daily lives, who is it that the world expects us to compete against? The world places us in groups, by type and kind, by creed and borderlines. The media of mankind markets hate for one and love for another, is that like the ministry of Christ? By election we are to choose a side, for one or the other, but what about loving our enemy as Christ preached at the sermon on the mount? Now, you may say it is just for some or the other outcome, but I ask you; what is hate? For one to gain, another must suffer the loss of it. Is that love? Know this too, that while two kings might send their troops to the battlefield, do they not sit safely at home? Do you remember how King Solomon's mother became King David's wife? There is one that is righteous, and that is our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you understand the question of Jesus regarding the words of David about Christ now?

In love then, when we look at those around us and all that they get involved in, should we not make sure that we do not have errors in us? For if we strive for the righteousness of Christ, we strive also for the love of Christ that we do not transgress against our neighbour or GOD that we love. Then, GOD'S grace is afforded to all by the judgment of GOD Himself, if we take our hand off the scales of justice. If we live by His instruction, then we walk within the will of GOD. You cannot say you love GOD, and hate what He loves, nor love what He hates. So, the body, mind, heart and soul must come into alignment with the Word of GOD. So too, do we become the vessels of the Love of GOD. God is Love, and by that love, we have the Spirit of GOD in us. For now, while we are still imperfect, it is but a goal, as we strive toward the perfection of Jesus Christ. So do we go through trials and tribulation, as the fire that separates us from impurities, in the process of deliverance and sanctification, unto our redemption at the end. When we are washed white as snow, without spot or wrinkle. Anything but the Word of GOD, is like spots on our garments. Can we then walk in half measure? Shall we give up before we reach the end?

Love the Lord your GOD with all of you, and your neighbour as yourself. Repent when you fall short of that. King David was loved by GOD for his repenting heart.

Selah, Shalom.

Verse of The Day

From the YouVersion Bible App for 20250131 (Extended from verse 16)

Romans 1:16-17 KJV

[16] For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. [17] For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
