Romans - Part 04

Falling Short

The Audio Version of today’s note is advised

Romans 3:1-31 KJV

[1] What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? [2] Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. [3] For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? [4] God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, And mightest overcome when thou art judged. [5] But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man) [6] God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world? [7] For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner? [8] And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just. [9] What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; [10] as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: [11] There is none that understandeth, There is none that seeketh after God. [12] They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; There is none that doeth good, no, not one. [13] Their throat is an open sepulchre; With their tongues they have used deceit; The poison of asps is under their lips: [14] Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: [15] Their feet are swift to shed blood: [16] Destruction and misery are in their ways: [17] And the way of peace have they not known: [18] There is no fear of God before their eyes. [19] Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. [20] Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.  [21] But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; [22] even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: [23] for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; [24] being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: [25] whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; [26] to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. [27] Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. [28] Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. [29] Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: [30] seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. [31] Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Note for 20241103

As we go through this journey here on the earth, it is easy to forget that it is GOD that saved us in Jesus Christ. Despite our best efforts, we still fall short of the Glory of GOD.

You know, friends; Paul writes on some of the most difficult topics to understand. He brings both the Jew and the Gentile to equal ground in that all fall short of the Glory of GOD. Because, all have sinned.

He writes that none will be saved by works, there is none that is righteous, no, not one. By doing the deeds of the law, none will be saved, not one. The law was given so mam may know what sin is. Who is without sin? Not one. I know you say in your heart, "but what about Christ?" Unlike us, Christ fulfilled the law entirely by being blameless on the cross. He was brought to us of GOD, alone in righteousness, perfect and blameless, to become the sacrificial Lamb of GOD, for the salvation of all mankind. There is no other, our Lord Jesus Christ alone is worthy. We are sinners, saved by the grace and mercy of GOD, through our faith in Him. By His blood are we who believe, redeemed back to GOD.

So, what is the law then, both that which is written in the Word of GOD, and that which is born in us by the HOLY Spirit of GOD in us? It is so that sin may be known by man, that we are sinners. It is to know that we did not save ourselves from sin and the penalty of death of it; that no man can boast in himself that it is of himself. For the law declares us all as sinners. We all fall short of the Glory of GOD. Every single one of us here on earth. It is by Grace alone that we are saved, for our faith in Jesus Christ the Lamb of GOD, sacrificed as an eternal sacrifice for sin, that whosoever shall believe in Him, might be saved by faith. So is mankind brought to equal ground, that all that be saved in Christ Jesus, is by faith alone, by the Grace of GOD. Upholding the law has thus become a response in gratitude of the Salvation we already have in our Lord Jesus Christ. We are not saved by the deeds of the law; yet, as James wrote to us, "faith without works is dead." So shall you know them by their fruit, for the believer produces good fruit. But, of Salvation, it is of Christ Jesus, by the Grace of our Father in Heaven.

I would prefer not to debate on these matters. And when I speak on these things, I do not speak alone. Much more, I would prefer to continue on in faith, hearing no more slander. I prefer in myself, to live in peace with all, by the peace I have found in me, by the peace of GOD that dwells in me, by the Holy Spirit of GOD. But, my silence would prevent the truth of GOD to be spoken to those entrusted to me by GOD. My silence would be like robbing others. For what I received of GOD, is meant to be shared with all. If I am silent, then the fountain in me has dried up. We live for the pleasure of GOD, for His purpose; not our own. Yet is it a pleasure to live for GOD. So we hate that which is not pleasing to Him, even if it be found in ourselves.

I do not have to debate or explain, the Word of GOD is sufficient for that. Let those who have an ear to hear, hear. And they who refuse GOD profusely, let them carry on in their iniquity. For, we all are saved by the Grace and Love of GOD alone. If I am not heard, then GOD will send another who you shall hear, if your name is written in the Book of Life. It is GOD that saves, not me. What is the sense of speech and debate, if the Word goes unheard? The Word goes out, that there be no excuse, when GOD comes to judge this world. I believe in Jesus Christ, that is the testimony of my mouth. I am saved by the Blood of Christ Jesus my Lord, upon the cross. So, please, do not look at me, look at my Lord and Saviour.

Our Father which art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in Heaven. Give us our daily Bread and forgive our trespasses, as we forgive them who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
