Revelation 1:9-20 KJV

[9] I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. [10] I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, [11] saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. [12] And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; [13] and in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. [14] His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; [15] and his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. [16] And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. [17] And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: [18] I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. [19] Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; [20] the mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Note for 2024/08/25

Over the last two days friends, we looked at the matter of tribulation of the followers of Christ, those that believe in Him and show their love to Him, by obeying His commandments. Believing in Christ, means also, that we believe that which He spoke of, and here, it is Christ speaking to John. As far as the 7 stars and candlesticks go, Christ gives the interpretation of it here. We don't have to guess or debate it.

The seven stars then, the angels (messengers) of the seven churches, which are mentioned here by Christ, He holds them in His Right hand. And the seven candlesticks, the churches, and He stands in the midst of them. Remember when Christ said, where two or three gather in my Name, there I am?

Now friends, before we go into Revelations 2, it is important that I mention that there are those that believe the 7 churches represent 7 church ages. They speak of dispensations of the church and it becomes quite intricate. If you are interested in going that way, I will make a link available on the Blog, where you can go listen to a teaching on this for your own consideration. For now, my interest is just to read the Word of GOD as it is written.

We know that these 7 churches were in the area we know as Turkey today, and at the time of writing the book of Revelation, it would have been occupied by the Greeks. From the writings of Paul, we know that there were Jews in these areas, because it is written that they were there. This was the area where the Apostles preached the Gospel unto the Gentiles.

As we have done up to now, let us see what in the Word of GOD speaks to us, the reader of the Word, for whom it was kept and intended. Those who believe in Jesus Christ, and follow Him in their Faith in Him, and our Father in Heaven. Look, from the mouth of Christ, John writes, came a two edged sword, which we know is the Word of GOD. Let me then ask a simple question: does it mean that I do not read the letter to the Ephesians because I am not living in Ephesus? Does it mean that because I am not in one of these 7 churches that Christ is not with me? No, of course not. Christ is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow; and what He speaks of here to these churches is valid for eternity. So... Why do we not rather read the Word of GOD, and see if any of what is written applies to us? If we have idols, then all that is written about idol worship applies to us. The warning is then for us, for GOD is the same always. What He hated that Israel did, He will hate if I do it. Understand? We are to work out our Salvation with the Lord, right? It means we must purge from us, that which is not of GOD.

It is the nature of man that comes in contention with the Lord. It is the rebellion of man that separates him from GOD. By our own choices do we follow or reject the Salvation that is available for all mankind in Christ. But only those who believe in it, take it up. As we are heading to read the 7 letters to the 7 angels of the 7 churches that are mentioned by name; let us look at our own lives to see what we are still part of, what our faith is like and what is our "attitude" towards God, mankind and this world at large.

Let us then workout our Salvation with the Lord, by becoming those that overcome these things that the Lord spoke of to John to write to these churches. So, today, this, part 3 of Revelation 1, but also part 1 of Revelation 2, before we have even read it.

Friends, read the Word of GOD, as if it is written to you personally. Understand? For the Word of GOD was left unto us, the believers in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of which John wrote of here in Revelation 1. That is our Christ Jesus, in His State of Majesty and Awe with God our Father in Heaven. The King of kings and Lord of lord's, let us pay attention. He is speaking to us too.

Shalom

[16] Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

1 Peter 4:12-19 KJV

(For context and Perspective)

[12] Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: [13] but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. [14] If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. [15] But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. [16] Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. [17] For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? [18] And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? [19] Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
