Luke 2:41-52 KJV
[41] Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. [42] And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. [43] And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. [44] But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. [45] And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. [46] And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. [47] And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. [48] And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. [49] And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? [50] And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. [51] And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. [52] And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

From this account, there can be no argument against the fact that Jesus was remarkable even as a child. Neither can we say that He just appeared, because we know of His birth. In every aspect, He grew up in the flesh just like we have. First a baby, then just a young child as we read of here.
How many of us would not be displeased if one of our children did what Jesus did here? How many have thought, how could Joseph and Mary not have missed Him a whole day long? Parents are to take care of their children, aren't they? And children are to obey their parents.
Exodus 20:12 KJV
[12] Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
For a moment, let us just think about how this might have played out today, and for me, here in South Africa, I would have been out of my mind with worry. Sure it was a different time, and a different place, but was Judea not under Roman rule at the time? Oh, I believe that they were worried about Jesus when they discovered that He was not among them. I also understand that this might have been the way they travelled in those times, the kids walking with friends. If it had to happen today, and under the same conditions, a child of our time may have said to Joseph, "You are not my Father." Or have we forgotten that Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit? You see, how do we believe in the Virgin Birth?
Today, Joseph might have been considered to be a stepfather of Jesus. Do you think that either Joseph or Mary questioned it further after they heard Him say that He must be about His Father's business? They knew Who His Father was. Hear now this verse from our reading:
Luke 2:51 KJV
[51] And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of GOD, was subject to them. Humble and obedient, He did not stay behind longer or make a big scene (as today's kids do,) but He went home with them and was subject to them. Exodus 20:12 is something that mankind struggles with. If man doesn't sin therein visually, what about in the head? How do we think and speak of our parents? What is our report of them, and is it in respect? Or do we have justifications in us that excuse us from our infractions of the Law of GOD? Did our parents fail in our expectations, or even in what is commonly expected of parents in this world? Christ Himself was subject to Joseph and Mary, even though He was the Son of the Most High GOD. Do not think for one minute they misunderstood His reply, they were informed of Him by an Angel of the LORD. And yet was He subject unto them.
God did not make a mistake when He gave you to your parents. As flawed as you may find them as you grow up, mankind is flawed in the carnal mind and heart. The LORD did not give you the wrong child, neither did He in error withheld children from those who cannot conceive. Sin begins with, "I want..." The, "I am..." is where pride begins, or the opposite, depression, both sinful in its nature. Even in depression it is still about the "I am..." even when it is "I am not..."
Here, Jesus, even as a child sets the tone for the believer, He subjects Himself to His parents here on earth. He fulfills Exodus 20:12, when He of all had the most room to subject all others under Himself.
Today, repent of your error in this and start living with respect for those that GOD gave you. Did we not just read yesterday, charity (love) covers a multitude of sin?
Selah, Shalom.
