Luke 1:46-80 KJV
[46] And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, [47] And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. [48] For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: For, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. [49] For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; And holy is his name. [50] And his mercy is on them that fear him From generation to generation. [51] He hath shewed strength with his arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. [52] He hath put down the mighty from their seats, And exalted them of low degree. [53] He hath filled the hungry with good things; And the rich he hath sent empty away. [54] He hath holpen his servant Israel, In remembrance of his mercy; [55] As he spake to our fathers, To Abraham, and to his seed for ever. [56] And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house. [57] Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son. [58] And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her. [59] And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. [60] And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. [61] And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. [62] And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. [63] And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. [64] And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God. [65] And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judæa. [66] And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him. [67] And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, [68] Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; For he hath visited and redeemed his people, [69] And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us In the house of his servant David; [70] As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: [71] That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; [72] To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, And to remember his holy covenant; [73] The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, [74] That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies Might serve him without fear, [75] In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. [76] And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; [77] To give knowledge of salvation unto his people By the remission of their sins, [78] Through the tender mercy of our God; Whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, [79] To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace. [80] And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

Note for 20250216
There is a great deal here in the text, so much so that if we had to go line-by-line, many sermons could be preached and have been preached. For one, it is here where Mary says that every generation would call her blessed, but at the same time with no suggestion that people should pray to her. Instead, she herself brings honor to GOD the Father.
Zachariah, the father of John the Baptist is filled with the Holy Spirit before he makes prophecies about his son, John, as the prophets prophesied; and also of the Christ to come. Here we have a rich reference, even how John would be called the prophet of the Highest, which Jesus Himself confirmed later, when He said that Elijah has already come in John the Baptist.
But, at this stage you might wonder about the title of today's note, and for this I will bring one verse from another version of the Bible that gives us some meaning behind the name of John.
Luke 1:63 NMV
[63] And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is Yochanan [Yehovah has graced]. And they marvelled all.

In verse 76, after Zacharias had testified of Jesus Christ, he turns his attention on his son, to Prophecy about him and says this, "And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;"
Isaiah 40:3 KJV
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Malachi 3:1 KJV
Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
John 1:22-23 KJV
[22] Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? [23] He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
So, the title of today's note is in short. More accurately it should be this: John (Yehovah had graced) in the wilderness, (crying) make straight the way of the Lord. And then this should be added too:
Luke 1:77-79 KJV
[77] To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, [78] Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, [79] To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
And:
Malachi 4:5-6 KJV
[5] Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: [6] And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
And still there is so much more here, even just on this and in the same line. Let us look at a line out of a famous Psalm.
Psalm 23:4 KJV
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
And we know that David was filled by the Holy Spirit, just as Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit according to today's text, when he said this:
Luke 1:79 KJV
To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
In addition to this (without references for the relief in reading or hearing) we know of the Psalm that says, "Thy Word is a Lamp unto my feet," and by the testimony of John (the disciple not the Baptist) in John 1, that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD; and in verse 14 then says, and the Word became flesh...
For years now, I have tried to show those who would listen, that every verse in the Bible stands in context of the entire Bible, even the Word of GOD. Here is what Jesus say of John the Baptist:
Matthew 11:11-14 KJV
[11] Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. [12] And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. [13] For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. [14] And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. [15] He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Did you hear? Has Elijah then come already? What do you say, and what does Jesus say? Is Jesus not the authority of the Word of GOD, and was the Holy Spirit not even sent to us in the Name of Jesus Christ? Then, if we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are filled by the same that filled Elizabeth, when Mary the mother of our Lord made salutations to her in Luke 1 as we read just yesterday, for your sakes I will quote it again.
Luke 1:39-41 KJV
[39] And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; [40] And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. [41] And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
For now, I am reminded that people have a constraint in time due to the pressures in their days, so I will bring this note to a close only for that reason. But, there is much more for you to discover should you deepen your search of the Word of GOD.
Selah, Shalom.
The Lord Bless and Keep you until such time you have learned all that you must to step into your calling in this life we are afforded. Amen.
