Matthew 5:33-42 KJV - Oaths and Judgment

[33] Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: [34] but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: [35] nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. [36] Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. [37] But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. [38] Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: [39] but I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. [40] And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. [41] And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. [42] Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Yesterday, we looked at adultery, also from the perspective of divorce. Today, besides it being so much more, we are looking at that which has become part of marriage, at both ends of it. From the vow, to the court, in settlement of who gets what in the separation. I say again, it is much more than just this.

I, myself, find it interesting how these in Matthew 5 follow one another in the ministry of Christ. Then I considered how divorced couples treat one another after the divorce is through. Do you remember the note on "Thou shalt not kill?" What is said to a child about their mother or their father in the process of divorce? Remember the Law to honor thy mother and thy father? Do we encourage children to break the law because of sour grapes and injured egos

It is further interesting that GOD would get me to write on this to you, for I come from a broken home and have been divorced myself. What is the testimony of my mouth? What GOD has brought together, let no man separate it. I have also seen the devil in things.

But this section of the text is so much more than just applying it to divorce alone, even though it is such a good example of this. You see, this world likes to bind things with an oath, even as you would have to swear before GOD that your testimony is true when entering the court of man, or on any legal document. Who is the adversary, who is the accuser of men? Let your communication be, Ye, ye; Nay, nay, for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. What I want you to see today, is how this world requires more from you than just a yes or no. In law enforcement, this seems to fit the description of entrapment. As if, the current ruler of this world wants to bind mankind with curses. Now, my ye have become ye, and my nay, nay; for I do not follow the prince of this world, but the King to come. Come, Lord Jesus, come. In the manner of all that comes against us now, I will turn the cheek, give my garments and carry what is requested of me even to the second mile. For here, the moth and rust destroy, but our treasures in heaven are stored up for an eternity with GOD. No, I shall walk in love, mercy and grace, from GOD The Father unto me, and I, the vessel of it to those I meet. No, I will not give in to the ways of this world; I will forgive, just as I have been forgiven of all my errors.

Man is accursed by this world of iniquity and evil, I will not hold a charge against any man, woman or child. No, GOD is my vengeance, he will judge all fairly and just. If emotion is required in anything, may it be love that flows from me, in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
