2 Peter 1:1-21 KJV

[1] Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: [2] grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, [3] according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: [4] whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. [5] And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; [6] and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7] and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. [8] For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [9] But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. [10] Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: [11] for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. [12] Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. [13] Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; [14] knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. [15] Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. [16] For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. [17] For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. [18] And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. [19] We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: [20] knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. [21] For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Note for 2024/08/12

Is there any question left in you, of what this faith we have in Jesus Christ our Lord means? Remember friends, Peter walked with Christ for His entire ministry, from the sea of Galilee to the cross. He witnessed all the Glory of the works and words of Jesus, in first person, with his own eyes and ears. As we would say today, Peter was part of the inner-circle.

Faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and charity; these should be in you. These are fruits of the Spirit, by which you should be known. Peter says, add it to your faith. These things do not come by the nature of man, but by the nature of the Holy Spirit that takes up residence in us. As we resist the devil, so too must we resist the temptations in the flesh, to choose good over evil, and not to be tempted unto death. Friends, that means that you say no to things your flesh may yearn for, and yes to things which the old man would not do. Refuse to be offended and keep in mind that it is you that the Lord sent to bring the Gospel to those that do not have it.

You know, I was meditating on the Word, as I go, and I came to the conclusion; what excuse would we have? Everything is searchable, everything can be investigated to find the source of it and understand the nature of it. Especially today, who can say, "I had no way to know?" The more true response should rather be then, "I had no interest or time to investigate these things." Each of us must workout our Salvation with the Lord. I must choose for myself, and permit you to do the same. But, how would you make a choice without hearing the Word? Let him that has ears hear then, what the Spirit of the Lord is saying. See here, faith is but the first step, on this way of sanctification. What then is godliness? We work out our Salvation with Christ, as we put away those things that are not fitting for a believer. So, to put it simply; how has Christ changed you? What of this world is no longer in you? You see, the old man must be left behind and the new put on. So we make a choice for Christ in all things, in every moment. I say again, as I have before, it is not just a Sunday morning thing. No, this is a way... A way of life, even a lifestyle choice; as we secure our yes to be yes, and our no to be no; especially in habitual things. The example that was given to us, is the example of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Son of GOD, in whom GOD is well pleased, as Peter testifies of here.

Like Paul in our reading yesterday, Peter is also hinting that he knew that his end was near. And from external records, we learn that he possibly requested to be hung upside down on the cross, stating that he was not worthy to be crucified in the like manner as Christ.

Do you still love your own life more than Christ? I have to ask, because that is what I measure myself against. Who am I living for and is it of the flesh or of the Spirit in me? Each day, we can live better than we did before, become a better person. And where I failed yesterday, I do not have to fail this day that the Lord has granted me. What I didn't say yesterday, I can say today. What was not forgiven, can be forgiven today. In all this, still the same question, who am I living for, in whose service do I stand, remembering Matthew 25 again. “What you have done for the least of these, you have done unto Me.” What do we then do, and what do we not do... for Christ our Lord? Have you ever felt like you would like to give Christ something? Well... Now you know how. Do it unto those He loves; and remember, He died for all.

Friends, it is a high hope in me that these daily messages may be of service for you. Even if it is only to let you know that you are not alone. It is Christ that told us that this world would hate us, for it hated Him first, so by trials and tribulations we are hardened in our faith, as we are delivered, even from the fear of death. For he that is in Christ, even death is profitable because of these promises of GOD, that we will receive life everlasting and a crown of glory.

Friends, heed the words of the Apostles and the Prophets of GOD, but first of all, heed the Word of GOD. Do not remain in the foolishness of this world, that has no reward in Heaven. Yes, seek first the Kingdom of GOD.

Friends, I know I write to believers, look at the start of this chapter, so was Peter. These things, the unbeliever cannot hear, even if it is spoken out publicly. Without faith the rest cannot come, the words will be forgotten, without effect. Christ said there is no greater love than him that lays down his life for a friend. Friends, is Christ your friend? Lay, then, down all these improper things, even one by one, lay that old man down. Put on the teaching of Christ. Do not continue on in sin. No, resist it, stand against it, in yourself first. Let the death of Christ on that cross be profitable in you, then you honor what He has done for you, when it saves you and delivers you from your former state. What then is patience, but exercising choice in all things? Weigh up good and evil, without excuse to give rise to an occasion to sin. Resist it.

Shalom

YouVersion Bible verse of the Day

(Expanded)

James 1:2-8 KJV

[2] My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; [3] knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. [4] But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. [5] If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. [6] But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. [7] For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. [8] A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Ephesians 6:10-17 KJV

[10] Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. [11] Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. [12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. [13] Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. [14] Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; [15] and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; [16] above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. [17] And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Romans 8:35-39 KJV

[35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? [36] As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. [37] Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. [38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
