‭1 Corinthians 10:1-33 KJV‬

[1] Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; [2] and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; [3] and did all eat the same spiritual meat; [4] and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. [5] But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. [6] Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. [7] Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. [8] Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. [9] Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. [10] Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. [11] Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. [12] Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. [13] There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. [14] Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. [15] I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. [16] The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? [17] For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. [18] Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? [19] What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? [20] But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. [21] Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. [22] Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? [23] All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. [24] Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth. [25] Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake: [26] for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof. [27] If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake. [28] But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof: [29] conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience? [30] For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks? [31] Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. [32] Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: [33] even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

Note for 2024/05/12

Happy mothers day to all the mothers out there. Also to all those who stand in guardianship of another, as a mother, to those that still need a mother and have none of their own. I thank GOD Almighty most of all, for Mothers but also for sons and daughters. I also remember those of whom are barren, unable to share in the joy of being a parent. May GOD Bless you according to His design for your life.

I am briefly taken to when The Mother and brothers of our Lord Jesus Christ came looking for Him, how he said that those that do His Father's Will, are His mothers and brothers. Just a quick side note for thought.

Let us then get on with today's scripture and that which we will be looking at today, as the Lord gives according to His Will in matters. And today, I cannot help but see the lesson of considering others above ourselves, even restraining ourselves and the liberty we have in Christ, for their sake, especially to present the message of Salvation in Christ to all.

To those that are in Christ, what we need we shall have in him, just as the Israelites could eat and drink in the wilderness by the mercy and grace of GOD above. There are those among whom we live, who have not received the moment yet, to truly consider what Christ has done for us. Many are still holding on to a plan they dreamed up to bring prosperity and a good life in their own opinion. Friends, with these we must remain patient, but not neglect an opportune time to make the Gospel of our Lord be known.

Because of the day we hold in special memory to be thankful of our mothers, I wish to use this example as one who gives for the sake of others. Because a mother gives of herself to carry the unborn child to term and the child is delivered through great travail and suffering, which only a mother and GOD can know. A mother places her own life in discomfort, even eating things the child may need that she would not ordinarily eat. So many mothers place their own lives at pause, to permit another of her family to pursue their dream. And as spoken of the unseen servant, a mother then an example to us all. Spiritually spoken then, in Christ, we must follow this example in placing the needs of others before our own then. We must be mindful of greater needs than our own.

See those around you, determine their needs to be sustained in the Spirit of GOD. Do not just pray for one in trouble, but also help where you can. If one then needs a shirt and you have two, is it not better to clothe someone than for the one shirt to lay unused? I know I speak of a foreign thing to our current time, as we hoard up clothes for different occasions. Think of it this way, would your mother let you go naked? And of course, I do not just speak of a physical garment, but also that which is known as a Spiritual garment. Yes, create occasion for good deeds to be done. Know also that this "dressing" process might include the need for correction, for which mother will let her toddler run with a sharp knife in hand? And we that stand in the faith, know that there are matters far more dangerous than a knife, while those who are young, even infantile, in the Spirit, may be unaware of any danger.

Friends, how do you express love without employing care? Care then too for one another. Don't you know that members in your congregation that go short in need, show the spiritual poverty of the church?

I will not keep you long today, so you may spend some time with your mothers in gratitude for what they mean to you. But, friends, consider the concept of the need for spiritual mothership. See that in today's scripture too. A mother does not allow her child to do things that will harm him or her in the end. Is the church then not called the Bride of Christ? Who are the children of GOD then? For who did Christ die?
