‭1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 KJV‬

[1] But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. [2] For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. [3] For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. [5] Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. [6] Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. [7] For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. [8] But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. [9] For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, [10] who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. [11] Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Note for 2024/04/27

Now friends, the best advice I can give to you now is to read the text again, even to read the whole of the chapter each time we go through the different sections of it, as to drink it all in. Read it over and over again, until you have comfort about the Day of the Lord.

Don't you know that He that is coming to judge the world, is He that will break the seals in judgment of this world. He is also the One by which our Salvation comes. We are of the day, and we are not appointed to His wrath. He is also the One living in us. He and the Father is One as is the Holy Spirit that is in us, one with Him and the Father, all inseparable, as One. And if we are in Him, then GOD in us, though we ourselves are not God.

Now, as far as judgment goes, maybe it is time to speak on that. See, we come to the Lord admitting our guilt as sinners. We repent of it and walk unto righteousness in this process of sanctification and deliverance until we reach the appointed time when Christ Jesus will redeem us. That day is for us a day of redemption not of wrath or judgment.

By our admission of guilt, we have essentially brought forward our judgment by declaring unto God our sin and transgressions. It is in our admission of guilt that we qualify for salvation by Jesus Christ. We are forgiven by the act of atonement of sin that Christ Jesus did for us in our stead on the cross and died for us, in our place. So, though we were guilty, worthy of death, Christ paid the price for us. So our judgment is done and over. In Christ our penalty is paid up. Only in Christ does the Salvation by Christ Jesus count for us.

Those that denied Christ had the same opportunity unto Salvation as us who believed in Him. We acknowledged Him as the Son of GOD, sanctified by The Most High GOD to save all that would answer to His call. So this helmet that we should have is the Hope unto Salvation in Jesus Christ. It is a helmet because it must cover our head, and thus also our thinking on all matters. Our faith is established by the Love of Christ Jesus our Lord, that He brought to us in dying for us. That is the love that we should carry with us unto all others, knowing that Christ died for them as much as he died for us.

That then is the purpose of those of us that follow Jesus Christ. And as followers of Christ, we have become His disciples in our own time. We are the ones sent out at this time then, to go and spread the Good News of Salvation in Jesus Christ, just as the disciples were sent out then. And if we are then disciples (students) of Christ Jesus, then Jesus Christ and the doctrine that He gave to us is the message to be brought unto all. So do we also edify one another by our words and deeds, reminding one another of the Way in which we should go.

But as far as judgment goes, even as far as trials and tribulations go, we are being judged in mercy and grace within the comfort of the presence of God's Holy Spirit in us. We are indeed corrected, yes even rehabilitated; and so we leave the old man behind and have become a new man in Christ.

I know that to most of you, these words are not new. But there are those among us that are still feeding on milk alone. Regardless of what may come upon this world, our comfort is in our Salvation and the hope of our redemption soon to come.

Why then be afraid of that which is mentioned in prophecy? Have we not been trained by GOD Himself to be ready at all times? We have the Hope of Salvation while the godless have no hope at all.

Let us then gather with us those that believe in Christ Jesus, and let us stand the watch with them. And when they want to fall asleep, let us be the ones to remind them of what to do. And what is it that must be done, to keep the watch on our Word and deed. For if we do not keep watch on that, then we go to sleep again and go into the darkness where dark things are done.

Friends, and now I urge you strongly, because there are many of our brothers and sisters that have fallen asleep. They do not know or have forgotten the things that you just read in the Word of GOD.

Remember, the Word has a message and examples of How GOD deals with those who stand in rebellion. And have we not the testimony of His readiness to forgive in us? So must we love and forgive, have patience with one another and hold up the weak, so they are not lost to this world.

This world will be judged, that is definite. And if we are still in this world, loving this world that stands with insults against God, partaking in their godless activities, then, as the word makes clear we will take part in judgment thereof. So, do not delay in repentance at all. Admit your guilt and walk in a way as not to sin anymore. If we fail, then we try and try again, hating the evil we have found in us.

And when the Lord Jesus comes to redeem us, He will perfect us. Have we not just read about the resurrection in which we will share in the previous chapter?

As far as resting at night, do not mistake it with the sleeping Paul speaks of here. For it is when the soul sleeps while the body may even be awake. That sleep is of being unaware of our Salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. Then the day of the Lord may come to us while we are asleep, but as our soul is awakened in Jesus Christ, we will not be left behind. Is it not the Lord that has brought us through all that we have overcome thus far?

So please, when it is time to rest the vessel that the soul and the Spirit of GOD dwells in, permit it to rest in the Peace of GOD. For we that stand with Christ Jesus, do not stand against God. No! We are in GOD because of Christ Jesus that is in Him and the Father in Him.
