Note for 20250613 - The Gospel of Jesus Christ - Part 138 - Mat 19 - Eye of the Needle
The Gospel of Jesus Christ
According to Matthew
Part 138 - Mat 19 - Eye of the Needle
Matthew 19:1-30 KJV
[1] And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judæa beyond Jordan; [2] And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. [3] The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? [4] And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, [5] and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? [6] Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. [7] They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? [8] He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. [9] And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. [10] His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. [11] But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. [12] For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. [13] Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. [14] But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. [15] And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence. [16] And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? [17] And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. [18] He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, [19] Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. [20] The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? [21] Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. [22] But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. [23] Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. [24] And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. [25] When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? [26] But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. [27] Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? [28] And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. [29] And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. [30] But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

Matthew 19:25-26 KJV
[25] When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? [26] But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

You know, after today's reading we might feel like the disciples, who can be saved then? I have been divorced, does that disqualify me? It was not given to me to be a eunuch. Besides, if becoming one flesh is the measure, I have divorced more than those who bore my ring. I cannot even measure up to this young, rich leader, for he kept the commandments since he was young. So yes, by this measure, what hope is there for me then? It is indeed impossible for man to save himself. Like the disciples, this left me with concern at first. I use myself as an example, because it is better for me to look at myself before I even think of looking at others, is that not true? But, Jesus gives His disciples hope, not just that nothing is impossible for GOD, but also this:
Matthew 19:28 KJV
[28] And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

But, regardless what mam would like to add to lift himself up, there is a count of thrones given in this instance. And the count is 12, for 12 disciples. Besides, shall we go from sinner to want to sit at GOD'S Throne, that would be presumptuous. Besides, Christ does give an answer to us about the questions that may float in our carnal minds:
Matthew 19:29 KJV
[29] And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

Look at the nature of man, just now we were considering how it is even possible for us to be saved, and now we have envy to sit at the Throne of GOD. Is anything ever good enough for mankind? Shall we next place our eye on the Throne itself, like the enemy of GOD? No! We should rather look at matters like being righteous in the Law of GOD, not separating that which God has put together, and selling all we have to give to the poor, make eunuch of ourselves and follow Jesus Christ. Who can bear this, so now we are focused again, for we fall short of the Glory of GOD and His Son. We are not worthy. We are sinners, and if we are saved it is by the Grace of GOD alone. It is impossible for man, but all things are possible with GOD. And; is that not what GOD gave us, of His Holy Spirit that we might walk on in righteousness, but who is listening? Are we walking away sorrowful like this young rich man?
Just in case you are wondering, you cannot give away someone else's goods for your honour. And what you have, is it yours alone, or are there others that depend on that besides yourself? How can you cut off the provisions for your spouse and children? Shall you give away your children's inheritance? Then you are a slave for them too, not? Once more we are back at perspective; are you consuming what your children might inherit? Besides that, shall your children not walk serving the same GOD as you do, as was the case with Isaac and Jacob? What inheritance is beneficial to them, that which the moth and rust destroy, or that which is eternal? Have you left that to them?
Friends, I know I hit the nail hard, but it is so you may understand that salvation is in God's hand, please Him. Do you remember what Jesus' first response was when the young man called Him Good Master? (I will leave that for you to find again) Selah.
Should our focus not rather be on doing that which is right... and pleasing to GOD? Should we not rather maintain our marriages, remember our children and the legacy we leave behind for them? Friends, like many others, I have very little of earthly wealth to leave behind for my children, but they know how I love GOD. I live by the good advice Paul left behind for Timothy, his Spiritual son, and I will give that to you and may you have it as an inheritance.
1 Timothy 4:1-16 KJV
[1] Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [2] speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; [3] forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. [4] For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: [5] for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. [6] If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. [7] But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. [8] For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. [9] This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. [10] For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. [11] These things command and teach. [12] Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. [13] Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. [14] Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. [15] Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. [16] Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Be an example to others, so that they may see your progress. If you have low beginnings (like me) the work that GOD has done for you will be clear to all. What is it to bear testimony, and who shall profit from it. Is it not better to bring one to faith, or sustain the faith of one, than to save yourself? Jesus will hand out the crowns, as for me, this is what I know, that I have a work, here and now. I don't deserve a crown, salvation is sufficient for me, but maybe one of you does. Receive what GOD has given to you.
Selah, Shalom.
