Note 2024/04/30 - 2 Thessalonians 2:1-17 KJV
2 Thessalonians 2:1-17 KJV
[1] Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, [2] that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. [3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; [4] who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. [5] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? [6] And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. [7] For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. [8] And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: [9] even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, [10] and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. [11] And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: [12] that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. [13] But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: [14] whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. [15] Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle. [16] Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, [17] comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

Here’s a brief summary:
Verses 1-2: Paul asks the Thessalonians not to be quickly unsettled or alarmed by teachings that the day of the Lord has already come.
Verses 3-5: Paul asserts that the day of the Lord will not arrive until the rebellion comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed.
Verses 6-12: Paul explains that this man of lawlessness is being restrained and will continue to be restrained until the right time.
Verses 13-17: The final verses switch to a tone of thanksgiving and encouragement.
Note 2024/04/30
Brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, this chapter should be read in one sitting, but maybe, the teaching here should be in sessions. Clearly, even back then, those who believed had concerns too about the Day of The Lord. Now for some odd reason, it has become practice by man to call Sunday the day of the Lord. This is clearly a misdirection. The day of The Lord is the day that Christ returns to us. The day of rest, which GOD established at creation, is the Sabbath. And as Christ said, man was not created for the Sabbath, but the Sabbath for man to rest.
In our time, I have heard the wildest ideas regarding the coming of our Lord. Read here for yourself what Paul taught. Also remember what Christ said on it.
The first thing that is crucial to understand is that that day is at hand. If that is what Paul said then, surely we are closer to it now, not? Paul did not see that day coming while he was in the flesh. He is joined together with those who slept in Christ.
Then, in verse 3, The Day of the Lord shall not come less there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,... What does that mean? See, if we indeed will see the coming of the Lord on that Day, we will first witness the falling away and this son of perdition being revealed. Jip, that means we will see him, before the Lord comes. Secure that in your understanding so nobody will deceive you in any way to believe something else. This is what the Word of GOD says. You read it for yourselves.
Now as far as searching and debating and discovering who it may be, that seems somewhat pointless, for he will be revealed. Now we have those that say it is this person or that person, or even an institution as they twist the Word to support their say on things. He will be revealed to all for he will hold himself greater than all the gods that man worship. Every religion will be impacted, so too will he blasphemously call himself greater than The Most High GOD, our Father in Heaven. He will be revealed, not found out. And this world will follow him willingly, because of the falling away that came first. A falling away, is those of the faith falling away from faith. Do you understand? Like some of the churches this world holds forth, now falling away from sound doctrine, even some now claiming that they do not believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of GOD. No, they will at most acknowledge our Lord as a mere prophet alone. The falling away has started, it is well underway now.
The mystery of iniquity was at work already even in the time of Paul. So why are we then still waiting until this day? I cannot cover everything in a day note, this is an extensive topic, but first it requires us to believe what we read as it is written. What then holds back the revealing of this man of perdition and the falling away? For some, the time has become so long in waiting, that they think the Lord is not on His way. Is that not the very thought that will lead them to fall away? I ask again, Who holds that day at bay? Is it not He that restraints? Is it not unto mercy that more may come into the faith? Once again, even on this there are debates. But friends, it is clearly The Holy Spirit that dwells in us, the believers. Is it then not obvious? Because in the falling away the Holy Spirit shall be grieved. Verse 7 makes this clear to me, and then just a note on language: "letteth" means "restrains."
Then shall that Wicked be revealed. That is the order of it according to Paul.
Now there is more here to read, but we have come to the end of the time I have available at this time. Also, there is quite a bit for you to ponder on here already. Check your understanding, does it match what is in fact written? This is important, less you think that you may see the day of the Lord's coming, but somehow escape the time when that Wicked one will be revealed. That is not what is written here.
Now, brothers and sisters, be sure not to follow along with those that just quote verses. For I have spoken a long time now about context. Each verse fits into the part it was read in, contextually. So is it for each chapter and each book.
In the thought of this, we are called to be ready, to have oil for our lamps. When is a lamp needed? Is it needed in day time or when it is dark? Read then again, and see that it is those who hold on to the truth who will not be deceived.
If you then have a job to do, believe. Yes, hold on to the truth, as you have read it for yourselves and as you are convinced by the Holy Spirit. We don't stand on our own efforts, we stand in the Hope of Salvation in Christ Jesus our Lord, the only Begotten Son of GOD. That Hope of Salvation comes by our Faith in Jesus Christ. He will save us. The How is in His hand. Read then Malachi 4 again, read it with understanding.
Our peace is of GOD, in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Shalom.

Malachi 4:1-6 KJV
[1] For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. [2] But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. [3] And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts. [4] Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. [5] Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: [6] and he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
